Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 27 include wrestling results plus headlines of the day and more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

Penn State wrestling sent competitors to the Mat-Town Open at Lock Haven on Sunday. The Nittany Lions have already competed in two individual tournaments to start the year. This was the third. No starters were on hand. Newcomer and Michigan transfer Kurt McHenry was 1-2 at 125 pounds. That likely puts to rest the thoughts of him stealing the starting job from Robbie Howard, Braedan Davis, or Gary Steen. Sean Wang was 0-1 at 133 pounds. Timothy Levine was 0-2 at 149. And, Lucas Cochran was third at 197 pounds. His only loss came to Jacob Cardenas of Cornell, who is ranked No. 6 in the country.

Penn State wrestling returns to the mat on Sunday against Lehigh. The dual meet starts at 2 p.m. ET at Rec Hall. Big Ten Network will televise it.

In other news, the new top 25 polls are out. While they have no bearing on the College Football Playoff, they are instructive in terms of where things could go Tuesday night when the committee’s penultimate rankings are revealed. Penn State moved into the top 10 of both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press top 25.

Quote of the day

“It was cool to see Jaylen Reed, a Detroit, Michigan native to be able to get an interception this week. Our special teams have really been solid the second half of the year and playing really well. We were able to get both running backs over 100 yards. We were able to protect the football. And we were able to play both quarterbacks. Something that we really wanted to do all year long, but we were able to emphasize the last two weeks. They both have different skill sets that can be challenging for a defense. So some real positives. Ten wins with a chance to go 1-0 and win 11 wins and hopefully a New Year’s Six Bowl game against a really good opponent like we did last year. So again, appreciate everybody coming out. Look forward to our next opportunity and open up to questions.”
