Earlier this week, we looked at the most explosive runners over the last five seasons for Pen State Football. But unlike those photos you took of fireworks on your phone, we’ll look at this topic again. This time we’ll rank the five most explosive receivers of the last five seasons. These players provided that all-important explosive passing play that the Nittany Lions and head coach James Franklin desired for his offense. We’ll rank these players based on their deep production in several metrics. Primarily, we’ll look at volume (total receptions and targets), yards and touchdowns, and yards per-route-run. Yards per route run is a metric of efficiency that considers the number of times a receiver runs a route versus the yards they produce. So a player running deep often but not getting the ball is less productive than one who makes something happen with his time on the field.
