STATE COLLEGE — Penn State coach James Franklin has held his final news conference before the Blue-White game.

Franklin addressed reporters for about 10 minutes here at Holuba Hall. The annual spring finale scrimmage is set for Saturday at Beaver Stadium. It will look slightly different than it has in the past, however.

“It won’t be a traditional spring game like we’ve had in the past,” Franklin said. “We’re working on a scoring system right now. Some people have done this in the past. I’ve never really done it before. So we’re looking into that. I don’t want to make it overly complicated. But we’re working on that right now.

“It’ll be offense versus defense. You know, more of a practice type strucurre, but there will be some live periods for the fans and the media.”

Highlights from Franklin’s news conference

–As noted above, the big takeaway is that instead of the tradition blue versus white format, it will be offense versus defense. There will be plenty of special teams periods, as well.

–Penn State is excited about having fans back in the stands for the 15th and final spring practice.

“Besides just Penn State football, it’s important to the entire community and the university as a whole,” Franklin said. “It’s a lot of different activities that are built around the weekend. So, I’m excited.

“It’ll be really good for some of our young players to be able to play in Beaver Stadium with some fans in there, and it’ll be on the Big Ten network as well. So there’s a lot of positives that can come from it.”

–Franklin also feels like the program has learned plenty throughout spring practice. That’s especially true on defense as Manny Diaz continues to install his new system.
