PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

• Who’s visiting on Friday, when Purdue is slated to scrimmage? There will be one player who has committed: 2025 Muncie (Ind.) Delta rush end Landon Brooks. And another who has an offer: 2026 Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban CB Elbert Hill. And it wouldn’t be a shock if 2026 Painesville (Ohio) Harvey RB Shahn Alston leaves with an offer.

• Offers to QBs are always of interest. And one just went out to 2026 Kingston (Ga.) Cass Brodie McWhorter

• A look at where Purdue stands with top 2025 Indiana recruits …

-It is believed Purdue is not recruiting 2025 Indianapolis Warren Central rush end Tyrone Burrus. And 2025 Carmel (Ind.) rush end Uchenyo Ojata and 2025 Indianapolis Cathedral WR Albren Johnson likely will have to earn offers at camp.

-As we mentioned earlier this week: 2025 Indianapolis Warren Central rush end Damien Shanklin and 2025 Indianapolis Ben Davis CB Mark Zackery are probably going elsewhere. Looks like Notre Dame.

-The two in-state wideouts Purdue is in on are JonAnthony Hall and Lebron Hill. Each will take an OV in June, as mentioned above. And it is thought the Boiler staff is in good position with OL Cam Gorin, who also will visit in June.

-As for Indianapolis Lawrence Central TE Nizyi Davis, Purdue may want to see him move around in spring/summer and get a medical on his knee; he tore his ACL last fall.

-Zionsville (Ind.) WR Eugene Hilton and Purdue appear to be going mutually opposite ways. And TE Brock Schott looks like a long shot, but …

-The door remains open for Elkhart (Ind.) Centeal rush end Mariyon Dye and CB Mason Alexnader. Dye is gonna be a tough get.

-Indianapolis Ben Davis DL Isaiah White is not a fit for Purdue’s scheme at rush end or tackle. And he’s not big enough to play nose. Warren Central OL Cameron Herron is not tall enough. Purdue does not want to take o-linemen under 6-4 anymore. Herron is 6-2 or so.

• If you like to play “connect the dots,” keep Miami (Ohio) portal running back Rashad Amos on your radar. His coach last year at Miami was Jason Simmons, who Purdue hired this offseason as an analyst. Also on the Boilermaker staff: Former Miami RB coach Lamar Conard, who was replaced by Simmons in Oxford. Conard recruited Amos to Miami before he left for Purdue. By all reports, Amos is a great young man from a great family.

But, does Purdue have a need for a RB?

Purdue already has a nice 1-2 punch at the top of the depth chart with Devin Mockobee and Illinois transfer Reggie Love. But, after that? There are redshirt freshman Christian Womack (who has been hurt) and promising true freshman Jaheim Merriweather. Redshirt freshman walk-on Elijah Jackson has been a pleasant surprise.

At 6-2, 230 pounds, Amos is a power back who ran for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns last season on 5.1 yards per carry.

Amos first hit the portal in December, committing to Washington. But UW head coach Kalen DeBoer quickly bolted for Alabama. So, Amos went back on the market. A member of the Class of 2020, Amos signed with South Carolina and played sparingly for the Gamecocks before transferring after the 2022 season. He wanted the opportunity to play, and he took advantage of it with Miami (Ohio).

It’s a long shot, but you never know …

PURDUE FOOTBALL

• Purdue saw running backs GA James Gilbert depart this week to be RB coach at D2 Pittsburg State in Kansas. It was a good move for Gilbert. No known candidates for now.
