Starting on Wednesday, 13 South Carolina athletes will be competing in 13 events at the NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugene, OR. That includes dual-sport true freshman athlete Nyck Harbor.

Harbor, who is the lone rookie for the Gamecock men, will be competing in both the 100m and the 200m sprints on Wednesday. The 100m preliminaries will start at 5:46 p.m. PT (8:46 p.m. ET), while the 200m preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 6:44 p.m. PT. He punched his ticket to compete at nationals after running 20.20 in the 200m, a personal best, two weeks ago at the NCAA East Regionals. Harbor also ran a new personal best in the 100m with a time of 10.11 to qualify him for nationals in that event as well. In addition to nationals, Harbor’s performance in the 200m earned him an automatic qualifying spot for the 2024 US Olympic Trials.

Joining Harbor on the men’s side are four athletes that have experience at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Last year, Anass Essayi finished fourth in the 1500m. He’ll be running in the same event on Wednesday starting at 4:46 p.m. PT. Channing Ferguson will be competing in the finals for both the long jump (Wednesday at 6 p.m PT) and the high jump (Friday at 5:30 p.m PT). Ferguson came in 14th place at nationals in the high jump last year. Both CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart threw the shot put in the 2022 NCAA Championship in Eugene. Licata, who competed for Princeton that season, placed 13th. They’ll be competing in the finals starting at 6:40 p.m. PT, also on Wednesday.

The Gamecocks are sending eight women (one alternate) to nationals this week. According to a press release from South Carolina, six of the athletes will be making their NCAA Outdoor Championship debuts. Not including the one alternate, Jayla Jamison is the lone returner competing at nationals. She’ll run in the 200m preliminaries at 7:44 p.m. PT on Thursday. Sylvia Chelangat will make her nationals debut as she will competes in both the 800m and the 4x400m relay.
