Shane Beamer has hired Darren Uscher to be South Carolina football’s new Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting, the school announced on Monday night.

GamecockCentral.com reported on Monday evening that the school appeared to be closing in on on hiring Uscher, who was Beamer’s top target for the position.

In his role, Uscher will play a key role in evaluating prospects from the high school, junior college, and transfer portal ranks, in addition to helping shape overall recruiting strategy.

A Gamecock alumnus, Uscher currently serves at Oregon as a scouting and player personnel consultant.

Uscher will replace Taylor Edwards, whose departure from the program became official on July 3.

After graduating in 2009 with a degree in sports and entertainment management from USC, Uscher began his career in college athletics as a marketing assistant for the football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s soccer programs.

He also interned with the Washington Commanders of the NFL and D.C. United of MLS.

Uscher was hired in January of 2024 by Chip Kelly at UCLA to be the Bruins’ Executive Director of Recruiting. He was on staff in Westwood briefly before returning to Oregon, where he had served during the 2023 season as a player personnel and scouting consultant.

He was the director of football recruiting at Auburn during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, helping the Tigers land back-to-back top 17 classes.

Prior to that, he spent a total of seven seasons on staff at Boise State. For the last five, he was Boise State’s director of football recruiting and player personnel. Each of Uscher’s seven years on campus, the Broncos signed the top recruiting class in the Mountain West.

Uscher’s first full-time position at the college level came at Georgetown, where he was the director of operations, assistant recruiting coordinator, and video coordinator for the 2013 season.

GamecockCentral.com will have more on this developing story as it becomes available.
