Kobe Black ranked as top cornerback in Texas

This week, class of 2024 recruiting player rankings about the industry have been updated, which means the On3 Industry Ranking has also been updated. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

In the updated rankings, one of Texas A&M’s top defensive targets is represented as a five-star prospect.

Waco (Tex.) Connally cornerback Kobe Black is now ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He is now also ranked as the No. 2 cornerback prospect and No. 3 prospect in the state of Texas.

The 6-foot-0.5, 190-pound defensive back holds 30 offers. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction MachineOklahoma State is a slight leader for his commitment at 29.7%. Texas A&M is sitting in second place at 20.9%

Kobe Black On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the 2022 On3 Scouting Summary for Kobe Black: 

“Two-way star at cornerback and wide receiver who shows off his natural ball skills on both sides of the ball. Tremendous size and length. Measures in at 6-foot, 190 pounds with a 6-foot-5 wingspan. Jumped an 18-inch vertical and ran an electronically-timed 4.25 shuttle and a freakish 6.98 3-cone drill during the spring camp circuit prior to his junior season. 

“Terrific high point ability and strong hands at the catch point. Solid long speed and hip fluidity. Prototype boundary corner at the next level and projects to be a top-tier NFL draft selection. Brother is current Oklahoma State cornerback, Korie Black.”

What To Know About Kobe Black

Kobe Black is the youngest from a family of college-level players. His oldest brother played hoops in junior college, his middle brother, Korie, plays football for Oklahoma State, and his father Keith was at Kansas State under Bill Snyder. His father was roommates with College Football Hall of Fame quarterback Michael Bishop. Black is a multi-sport star on the football field, hardwood in basketball and on the track for the Connally Cadets, where he excels in the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays. In football, he does a little bit of everything for Connally.

In 2022, he racked up 337 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground. He also had 305 yards receiving and five touchdown grabs. He also had 21 tackles, two interceptions and two tackles for a loss at cornerback – an impressive number, especially since teams would not throw his direction. As a sophomore, Black had 41 tackles and seven pass breakups. Those numbers were solid enough for him to be named the Waco Tribune’s Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Away from sports, Black says Doritos is his favorite food, Fortnite is his favorite video game and he enjoys listening to NBA Young Boy. He plans on majoring in business in college.
