Texas A&M is now ranked No. 15 in the 2023 On3 Consensus national team recruiting rankings after landing a commitment from five-star defensive lineman David Hicks.

The commitment came as a surprise to many as it was believed Hicks was heading to Oklahoma. He chose the Aggies at the last minute, another big time recruiting win for Jimbo Fisher and Co. The change most likely came from Hicks and his family spending time in College Station back-to-back weekends, including the win over Miami.

The Katy, Texas, native is the highest rated commit in the Aggies’ 2023 class with a score of 98.06. Hicks is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Texas and the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country. Texas A&M now holds 12 commitments.

Although the Aggies only holds 12 commitments, eight of them are blue chip (4+5 stars) recruits. This alludes to the Aggies’ chances to back up their historic 2022 class with another elite class.

On3 Scouting Summary

Physically-developed defensive lineman with advanced power along with length and quickness. Possesses a big frame with a muscled build and an 80-inch wingspan at 6-foot-4. Has brute strength which he pairs with initial quickness to create steady disruption along the line of scrimmage. Consistently shows quick and powerful hands at the point of attack with some advanced pass rush technique for a young defensive lineman. Very much a power player at this point in his development, but plays with some nuance and technical skill. Working at both defensive end and defensive tackle as a junior at a powerhouse program in Texas’ highest classification. A strong, but not elite athlete. Turned in dominant showings at college camps prior to his junior season.

The Class

As a result of Hicks’ commitment, the Aggies have a total score of 91.05, placing them just behind USC, who has a score of 91.22.

Texas A&M is very much in play for Top 100 prospects like five star safety Peyton Bowen, elite defensive back Javien Toviano, and other top prospects such as four-star offensive lineman Caden Jones. And that means the Aggies could move up the rankings again soon.

The 12th member of the 2023 Texas A&M recruiting class, Hicks joins five-star linebacker Anthony Hill and Top-100 defensive backs Jayvon Thomas, Dalton Brooks, and Bravion Rogers. Also in the class is four-star offensive linemen Chase Bisontis and Colton Thomasson, four-star linebacker Daymion Sanford, three-star defensive lineman Samu Taumanupepe, three-star offensive lineman Naquil Bertrand, and the nations No. 1 punter, Tyler White.

Texas A&M is looking to take under 25 prospects this cycle.

Texas A&M is now the No. 6 highest ranked SEC school.
