The Texas A&M Aggies will kick off their first of 15 spring ball practices on March 20, with the Maroon and White spring game scheduled for Saturday, April 15.

Texas A&M’s first practice will be Monday, March 20. The Aggies will then practice every Wednesday, Thursday, and Monday. The first seven practices will be played as normal, but practice No. 8 will be a scrimmage. There will then be two more practices before another scrimmage for practice No. 11. Regular practices are scheduled the following week, capping it off with the traditional Maroon and White spring game.

Times for the practices, scrimmages, and spring game were not announced.

It is likely this spring will have a different feel than ones in recent years, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Aggies first year offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino will be implementing a modernized offense to the program, which should give the Aggies a completely new look.

Plenty of firsts this spring for Texas A&M

This will be the first spring for Texas A&M with Conner Weigman as the starting quarterback. This time last year, Weigman was still getting used the college lifestyle and was third on the depth chart. Now, he can prepare, both physically and mentally, as the head of the offense.

Weigman has a lot of expectations heading into the 2023 season. With such a lackluster season last year, going 5-7, Weigman is one many expected to help raise the Aggies back to success and prominence.

As mentioned above, this will also be the first spring with Bobby Petrino in command of the offense.

Jimbo Fisher handed over play calling responsibilities with the hire of Petrino, who is known as an excellent offensive mind. His offense should modernize what the Aggies have done in previous years. Weigman is at quarterback and a bevy of weapons are set to be around him. So, petrino has everything he needs to make a difference in year one.

Spring Additions

There will 13 new players at Texas A&M for spring ball. Ten early enrollee freshmen and three transfers will take the field with the Aggies returning players.

The offensive additions are elite four-star running back Rueben Owens, four-star offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, four-star offensive lineman TJ Shanahan, four-star wide receiver Micah Tease, four-star wide receiver Raymond Cottrell, four-star tight end Jaden Platt, three-star offensive lineman Colton Thomasson, and UTEP transfer wide receiver Tyrin Smith.

The defensive additions are four-star cornerback Jayvon Thomas, four-star linebacker Daymion Sanford, three-star linebacker Taurean York, UNC transfer cornerback Tony Grimes, and Florida State transfer safety Sam McCall.
