Aaron Rodgers: Anything less than a championship is a disappointment

Aaron Rodgers knows that stakes are high for the Green Bay Packers this season. With Rodgers’ future in Green Bay uncertain, in addition to the lack of cap space the Packers will have ahead of next season, it is important for the Packers to take advantage of their current window of contention. For Rodgers, anything less than a Super Bowl would be disappointing.

Rodgers: “It’s championship or disappointment”

The Packers have won one Super Bowl with Rodgers at quarterback. Rodgers has won three NFL MVP awards and has been named the AP Offensive Player of the Year six times. In his career, Rodgers has thrown for 51,245 yards with 412 touchdowns and 89 interceptions. In addition, he has 31 touchdowns and more than 3,000 yards rushing.

Green Bay has a few key free agents set to hit the market following this season. With not a lot of projected cap space, it might be tough to fit everyone back under the cap. Even Rodgers doesn’t know if he will be in Green Bay next season. That makes this season even more important for the future of the franchise.

“I think we all know what’s at stake,” Rodgers said via Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith. “I talked about that a little bit the other day about perspective and how important that perspective is to focus on this season and enjoy the most out of this season. Because there are a lot of unknowns.

“They jumped through some hoops to get under the cap this year. Obviously, the cap is expected to go back up next year but you never know. So we’re just going to enjoy this season. It’s Title Town. It’s championship or disappointment.”

The offseason centered around drama between Rodgers and the Packers

All offseason, the entire world of football questioned whether or not Rodgers’ time with the Packers was over. Eventually the two sides came to an agreement, bringing Rodgers back at least for this season. At the end of the season, Rodgers holds the power in terms of his future. If he wants out, the Packers must move him, according to the agreement they came to ahead of training camp.

“As for the Packers, they have about six months to repair that relationship with Rogers,” Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer said. “If at the end of this year Aaron Rodgers decides he wants out, they have to trade Aaron Rodgers. They’ve agreed to it already.”

Wide receiver Davante Adams also wants a new contract. He is set to hit free agency at the end of the season. With two star offensive players free to explore the market after the season, the Packers must take advantage of having them on the roster while they still can. Next season, things could look drastically different in Green Bay.
