
<p>The San Francisco 49ers star defensive end nick bosa is expected to fully return to practice next week. Bosa is coming back from a torn ACL he suffered in week two of last year. That was his second time tearing an ACL. The first time was in his Senior High School season, which prevented him from being a key part of their championship-winning team.</p>



<h2>The 49ers without Bosa</h2>



<p>In 2019 the 49ers had a near unblockable defensive line. A line that featured multiple first-round picks in Buckner, Armstead, Ford, and the aforementioned Bosa. Bosa was the crown jewel of that line and finish the season as the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year. He ended the year with nine sacks, 25 hits on opposing quarterbacks, 16 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovered, and an interception. Bosa’s performance had him ranked 17th in the NFL network’s top one hundred players going into 2020.</p>



<p>With Bosa out for most of 2020, the 49ers’ defensive line failed to replicate the production it had in the previous year. Not only was Bosa out but so was Dee Ford for the entire season. Without them, the Niners went from a top-five team in sacks in 2019 to the 22nd ranked team in the league the following year.</p>



<h2 id="h-an-outlook-on-the-season">An outlook on the season</h2>



<p>With the 49ers getting Bosa back and drafting Javon Kinlaw, <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-all-32-nfl-defensive-line-units-entering-2021-season">Pro Football Focus</a> has them ranked as the ninth-best defensive line coming into this season.</p>



<p>“Bosa and Ford’s return to play alongside Arik Armstead could give the 49ers one of the best edge rotations in the NFL. San Francisco will also need Javon Kinlaw (54.1 PFF grade as a rookie) to make a second-year jump to get back toward the elite group we saw two years ago,” they wrote.</p>



<p>Although there is much to get excited about with the 49ers’ defensive line potential return to glory now that Bosa is back, fans must temper their expectations. “The 49ers aren’t rushing Bosa back onto the field,” said new defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans.</p>



<p><a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/niners-expect-nick-bosa-to-be-full-participant-in-practice-next-week?campaign=Twitter_atn">Around the NFL</a> writer, Nick Shook added this on the news about the star defensive ends return.</p>



<p>“He’s not quite declared as a Week 1 starter, but a return to practice as a full participant means he’s on track,” he wrote. “Barring any setback, San Francisco can realistically expect Bosa to be ready to roll when the 49ers travel to Detroit to face the Lions on Sept. 12.”</p>
