What a Green Bay Packers contract offer to Aaron Rodgers would look like

Aaron Rodgers will need to make an official decision on the Green Bay Packers soon. He intends to make a decision prior to the start of free agency to give the Packers ample time to prepare for the offseason, whichever way he ultimately opts to go. If Rodgers decides to stay with the Packers, it will require a new contract for the back-to-back MVP. That contract will likely be a massive one, albeit with a shorter term.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Rodgers is likely looking at a two year extension with a significant salary, in addition to some other important details added on.

“What would an Aaron Rodgers contract extension look like? Likely two years for more than $45M per year, with voidable years tacked on for cap reasons,” Rapoport tweeted.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported a similar idea, saying that the Packers will go “all in” on Rodgers when it comes to a contract this offseason. Green Bay is already up against the salary cap, but for a new contract with Rodgers, the Packers are willing to spend however much is necessary.

“Packers are prepared to go all in for Aaron Rodgers in 2022, spending as close to the cap this year and spreading it into future years as much as possible, per sources,” Schefter tweeted. “Saints used this approach for Drew Brees and Green Bay willing to deploy that model to further entice Rogers.”

There is optimism that Rodgers and the Packers can agree to a contract, return

When Rodgers and the Packers publicly disputed during last offseason, there were obvious stains on the relationship between the two sides. But this offseason, things are different. Both Rodgers and the Packers have publicly shared appreciation for one another, maintaining respect throughout the process.

The Packers have not been shy about saying that they want Rodgers back. And Rodgers has said that he wants to be respectful to the organization by making a decision in a timely manner.

Rapoport reported earlier on Sunday that the relationship between the Packers and Rodgers is good, and that there is optimism he will decided to stick in Green Bay.

“The relationship is in as good a spot as it has been in quite a long time, leading to optimism and hope from many involved that he will choose to return,” Rapoport said. “No one knows for sure what Rodgers will do, except Rodgers, and no one will rush him to do it.”

Rodgers has won back-to-back MVP awards. He is coming off of a monster season, throwing for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns with a league low four interceptions.
