I remember him at Texas Tech. He was one of those guys that's just an athletic freak. Tech won a bunch of games when he was there. His uncle is Tony Battie, former high 1st rd pick that put in 15 years in the NBA for Celtics, Magic, Cavs, and a couple other squads.
Yeah, I remember him being a guy that did the dirty work, mixing it up with the bigs more than any kind of scoring threat. Love guys like that.I remember him at Texas Tech. He was one of those guys that's just an athletic freak. Tech won a bunch of games when he was there.
Training table and weight room are calling.I like his numbers and attitude
But sure hope he can handle BIG play- awful skinny. Wish he was 10-15 lbs heavier
Faith in Fred though- He has earned it
You break a press by passing the ball not your point guard dribblingWho is the backup PG if TL is injured or in foul trouble? I could see other teams pressing every chance they get. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a college roster that didn’t have a least a few 6’3” and under pure guards. Will be interesting how Fred manages this.

That’s what I was told 50 years ago. I still see a lot of teams use a PG to break man pressure at times. We sure used the heck out of our smalls last year to penetrate and dish last year in the half court. You break a press by passing the ball not your point guard dribbling
We had a couple of guards who could make them pay. IF you have a guy who can split or beat a double team or trap in the backcourt all of a sudden you can end up with a 5 on 3 offensive opportunity. I agree that we normally passed to break presses but a couple of guys with a handle can help. It’s not like Frager, Sandfort and Essegian are completely incompetent at dribbling. Still begs the question of who runs the offense now without Sam or Lawrence. Jacobsen backup PG?Pressing sure worked well for our opponents last year. I hope they press every chance they get.
You don't watch much basketball these days, do you? The idea of a "true PG" is 80's basketball reminiscing. I see this same post pining for a "true PG" every season.
I thought san Diego state guy was backup pg, but could be wrong. Cale can situationally. Pryce seemed to really improve his overall game as the year went on, including ball handling. Excited to see his game develop even further. Same for Frager. We had a couple of guards who could make them pay. Need Cale to come off the bench and be the 6th man this year.I thought san Diego state guy was backup pg, but could be wrong. Cale can situationally. If you insist on there being a "backup PG" then the obvious answer is Jacobsen, since that's the role he's been playing for two seasons. You must have forgot about him. But c'mon man - Fred doesn't care about point guards. This roster is loaded with guys that can handle the ball and they're all looking to pass to the open shooter. We will 100% murder anyone that tries to press.Who is the backup PG if TL is injured or in foul trouble? I could see other teams pressing every chance they get. I like Jacobsen, but he’s limited as a ball handler. Good role player. We. Don't. Need. A. Great. Point. (even though it sounds like Leonhardt very well might be a great point) Jacobsen's assist to turnover ratio last year was 2.1, which is better than average. No one on this team is going to be a dribble heavy ball dominant guard. That's not how Fred runs offense. Almost no one in the B1G runs much press, and you know how Fred is - he'll have his 5 bring the ball up. It's not an issue.I like Jacobsen, but he’s limited as a ball handler. Good role player. Yep. Fred wants tall, good ball handlers, who can hit 3's and are willing to buy in on defense. He doesn't seem to value a traditional pg.We. Don't. Need. A. Great. Point.
