AKB Tell me about your Sprinter van/camper

I have a neighbor that does this van life s**t seasonally. He's sort of an a**hole and smells. He's got a cool rig though.
All of the high-end contractors own them except for the camping part. They opt for tool and supplies storage.
Dually, diesel, 4wd will get you into the back country. Add a diesel furnace.
We just sold our Pleasureway Ford Transit based RV. It was not a dually and designed to be able to park in a regular parking spot. More convenient than the majority of RV’s.
We decided not to get the Sprinter based RV after talking with a lot of people, because we were going to use our RV to take trips out west. You can find someone to work on a gas powered Ford just about anywhere. A Mercedes diesel - no. Someone we spoke with had a problem with their Mercedes diesel RV in southern NM and had to be towed to the nearest place that worked on them, a short 400 miles away. This is something to consider when buying a RV.
We decided to throw in the towel after our month long trip from SW FL to Livermore, CA and back. This was because the traffic was much worse than when we had done the same trip before and the percentage of out of control drivers (overly aggressive) had significantly increased over the past 5 years resulting in a few near misses on our last trip. And we had a lot of strong winds to deal with on this trip that was blowing the RV all over place making it an exhausting, difficult drive. That is another thing to consider with a Class B motor home. The tallness of the vehicle (10 feet) relative to the weight made it like a sail in heavy winds that led to control issues.
These are some of the things to consider when looking at a smaller RV.

My friend just bought a 1982 VW Vanagon. It has a beat up motor that can max out at 45 mph. The interior needs some work too. According to him, the women in the neighborhood don’t like it but somehow attracts middle aged men who want to strike up conversations. Good luck with yours!

Here's my recreational vehicle. Just back from a 300 mile bikepacking trip in PA.
1 and a dozen bros 2 weeks ago made their way from LA to Denver, parked their cars, hopped on a train and biked back over 7 days 250? miles, dry camping most of the way. He slept at 11.500 elevation 2 nights said it was no joke. His elevation changes on the ride were 3-4k ft. Tell me your bike specs, he’d love to hear. Also he’s coming next week to Philly for a wedding and they (gf) are staying in 2 Vrbo s scouting neighborhoods for 10 days. if they move to Philly he’s gonna need some hardcore bike bros
‘last year he fell just short of 5000 miles on the bike (s). While in town he’ll be riding the SURLY he built for me. Sunday we’ll be at the wall!

I saw an old bus and it had a 'One Less Sprinter Van' sticker on it. I liked that.
There’s def a brotherhood when they line up side by side and freeze their assses off overnite in the mammoth parking lot (dub bros are colder)
Worth it if you are going to camp in sub-zero conditions$$$$

Last week I rode the Delaware & Lehigh Trail out and back from Bristol to the northwest terminus (Black Diamond Trailhead) in the Poconos. Eventually the trail will extend another 20 miles to Wilkes-Barre and it will be the longest rail trail in PA (longer even than the Great Allegheny Passage). Since this was a rail trail with gravel surface and I was carrying about 30 lbs, of camping gear I rode my gravel bike (Trek Checkpoint SL5 - carbon frame, electronic shifting, 11 speed). There's lots of good cycling options in the Philly area. And luckily, we don't need to worry about altitude here in the East. No plans to attend the Philly Cycling Classic here.

My BIL and SIL bought a VW Vanagon camper back in early 80's/. Had little kitchenette and pop up sleeper top. Sold everything and were off to find America and all that. Had an air cooled engine. It burst into flames crossing Death Valley and entire trip to find themselves and American ended after about 1 month..........
On a happier note 1 and I are driving my new sport wagen cross country over thanksgiving. We’ve done 3 big trips the 2 of us, I really can’t wait.
