Iowa should pursue the Ukrainian Koval who just left LSU. She felt uncomfortable because Slimy Mulkey is bringing in a Russian player. Koval is not great but she would, in my opinion based on what I have seen, be a better backup to Ava. Thoughts????

Hard to imagine a scenario where Jan adds a player to this team this year.
Agree, this roster is solid barring injuries.
Unfortunately too many Americans are oblivious to what goes on in the world. The longer the Ukraine and Russia keep killing each other, the larger the divide.
FWIW, barring some kind of waiver, Koval is not eligible to transfer and play in 2026-27. Portal not currently open. Will need to sit out this year.
That would be even better; so as not to conflict with Ava as much. If as reported JJ is looking at Hartwell wouldn’t a more proven Koval be a better option. She was ranked in the top 15 as a high school player.
If Iowa signs Hartwell, hope that ESPN is as wrong about Hartwell as they were about Koval. ESPN ranked Koval # 5, and she is nowhere near a top 5 recruit (middling career at both Notre Dame and LSU, hence why LSU signed the Russian center). ESPN now ranks Hartwell # 95 (after ranking her # 27 in April 2026).

I know many of you will disagree with this. I would love to see her at Iowa. Yes, she is a bit slow and plodding; however, in my opinion she is much more talented than Layla. She is a solid 6'5" and was ranked in the top ten. With JJ, Randi and LaSondra helping her, they would get more out of her than the coaches at Notre Dame and LSU. When Ava would need a break, Kate could come in and clog up the middle, as she has a physical presence. And I know some of you will say it is already weeks into the season and it would cause friction with the team. Remember, one wrong turn or twist and god forbid, Ava is lost. With Layla, I just don't see us thriving. From a political and social perspective, bringing Kate Koval into the fold would gain Iowa even more positive press and impress many spectators.
