And I would've thought that was the floor going into LAST season. Oof!
I don't know what to think. The rosters change so much and that completely throws a wrench in the predictability of it all. In the case of the QB he changed so much from one season to the next, and I don't believe that was all on coaching. The new OC is the type of hire they needed to make on paper. I don't know about the O line coach. The two constants in the coaching staff are Beamer and White and neither of them provide much to get excited about it.
Just hope they block and tackle well - can't do anything if you suck at those. And don't make the boneheaded mistakes. Also don't blow 30-3 leads. If they do all that it could be a good season.

College football needs to start the season in October to reduce severe weather delays, the heat and potential hurricanes.
In my college days, the first game was usually around mid September. Starting football before the end of August is absurd.
I have no idea what to expect. I'm hoping we will be a lot better. I've stopped watching preseason prediction shows too. All of them pick their top teams from how the teams performed last season. College football today is like those investment ads we all see. "Past performance does not guarantee future results".
A lot of this hinges on the OL....and what I LOVE about the offense is that if the OL is well prepared and in shape, they don't have to be studs. I've jumped up and down for decades on here saying we aren't going to out talent the SEC elite especially on offense. Gotta have the right offensive system. This is the right system. I wanted at USC 10-15 years ago sure....but I will take what I can get.

Mark my words. If we go big on Kent St, the sunshine pumpers will come out in droves. The narrative, "Our offense looks amazing", "We made the right hire for OC", "I can now see this team winning 9 games minimum".

That is because you have seen both scenarios before. Harvard nailed it on what will happen if we win big against Kent State.
If we squeak by, the Sunshine Pumpers will still be out in droves. That narrative will be, "we didn't want to show too much of the playbook", "the offense always takes longer to gel than the defense", "it will take a few games before Briles really has the offense clicking with his new system", "there was a lot to like out there today, I can see this team easily winning 8 games".
I don't push for us to go out of our way to blow teams like this out. Some fans on here say things like "play it close to the vest, get a win and move on" which I think is absurd.
I think you need to go into games like this and play the same as you would against Alabama or Clemson or Texas. Just go in and execute.
I think the blowout should happen simply as a byproduct of a good team running their normal offense, defense and executing. If we're a good team, we should not have to do anything extraordinary to win by a very large margin.
That said, winning 56-0 wouldn't mean we're a good team. Winning 17-13 would mean we are most likely not a good team.
Oh, I get it. You mean enjoying college football and South Carolina football in particular. Gotcha.
I remember the opener against Citadel in 1984 made me think it was going to be a long year. Openers can be funny.
It's acceptable to blow out Kent St running the ball well. But you don't really want to show the whole playbook week one. Just win baby!
I just can’t predict records in this league anymore. MSU could get hot and go 9-3 and Tennessee could go 4-8. I think the pieces are certainly in place to go 10-2, but the schedule is brutal. The idea that Carolina is not a premier college football program needs to be eliminated.
