With a new season comes renewed hope. Do we get a BOAF to please the football gods?

Time will tell.

Please excuse my internet message board acronym ignorance, but wtf is a BOAF?
I believe it stands for Birds Of A Feather. Doodle used to put together long lists of people that were connected in obscure ways each week, and the goal was to "solve" the puzzle by figuring out those connections by game day. Not sure I ever contributed other than being wrong repeatedly. Which sums up much of my life actually....

And the final person on the list is always "Fat Oprah."

Ok, but what did it stand for?

Btw, I still remember, "Fear the Doodle-mobile!"
Birds Of A Feather. It started way back during the Tom Davis lame duck year when there was rampant speculation and dozens of names being thrown around as to who might replace him. Tiring of the constant debate and churn, Ol' Doodle put a list together that started with coach names and then mockingly transitioned into names of celebrities, athletes, politicians, fictional characters, etc.

Most had some similarities in spelling or pronunciation, like:
Mike Wallace
Wallace Shawn
Shaun White
etc....

Sprinkled in every so often were names that had no obvious structural relevance to the name before them in the list. But in fact there WAS a hidden connection that made it make sense once it was discovered. For an easy example, maybe Shaun White would be followed by Susan Harris. No sound- or spell-alike....but Susan Harris follows Shaun White because she was the creator and executive producer of "The Golden Girls" which starred.......Betty WHITE.

The non-obvious names had an asterisk after them and the goal was for all those mystery associations to be figured out before the opening kick of the first game of the year so the Hawks would have maximum Karma for the season.

Birds Of A Feather lasted probably around 20 years or so. But like all things, it became apparent it had run it's course and was time to put it out to pasture.

I personally loved them but I guess all things must come to an end. Or maybe Doodle will Michael Jordan us with an "I'M BACK" thread when we least expect it.
