Providence Day has a terrible QB theyd get beat by the top 5 public school teams. hough is impressive
Hough has an all-time defense right now. They’ll likely break some statewide defensive records by seasons end
Told ya so. lololololololol. PD is good but aint seen nothing like Hough. When I saw Hough live vs. WC last year I became a believer. Hough 25 and 26 may be the best teams in NC history.
Hough vs Buford GA needs to happen! Bank of America stadium. We have seen Hough don’t back down from anyone.
Hough wont be nearly as good next season. Good and state championship caliber but nothing like 25/26. 26 will have no NC comp for them. They were elite already before adding a 5 star DB, 3 all conference/all state D1 from WC, and getting multiple D1 linemen transfers on an already elite stacked roster. Hough 26 is again best team in NC history level.
Honestly? In state history? That's a tricky question because most metro teams get help from transfers to some extent, so there's no such thing as a pure homegrown team. Even the bog county teams get transfers now. There's local transfer teams IE Indy reign, MC reign, WC reign Rolesville, and then there's state wide transfer teams IE PD, Hough, Weddington, MP, and then there's national elite transfer teams and thats Hough. Hough has a ton of guys that started there in the 9th grade that never played at Bailey and also were not in their home school zone as 8th graders. Are those considered transfers?
IMHO some of the best in NC history. Hough 25/26, Northern Durham 93, Mallard Creek 13, Indy 03/04, Richmond 97/98, Wake Forest 17/18, Dudley 13, Grimsley 24, Crest 15. These are some of the best I've seen live. Btango would be the true historian.
Have seen some great teams not win it all but be better than other year state champs. WC 91,97 should have been state champs. Scotland 16/17, 08 Indy, MC 17 were teams I saw absolutely dominate regular season but run into injuries and bad circumstances in the playoffs.
Was that Indy dynasty mostly made of East Charlotte kids? I know people have asserted Creek’s was mostly local kids
Indy/Butler were really from the same areas of kids. They are 3 miles apart. During those days there were kids moving into the area to play there but nothing like now.
I think it’s hard to compare historically great teams of the pre transfer era to what Chambers became years ago and what Hough is now. 04 Indy looks different if they got some of the best Butler and West Charlotte players. The question should be if we picked a year to pull the best Butler/indy players on one team back in the early 2000s, could that team compete with Hough.

I remember stories of parents getting apartments to go to Creek during their dynasty. Honestly, it seems like CMS football in general operates HEAVILY off dynasties since the year 2000 (I’m not familiar with any 20th century ones). I don’t remember it ever being much parity in the football scene in the city. I also wonder why Garinger seems to have never been ever to field a good run, despite being in an area with plenty of people. I know why it’s bad now, but even in the past eras
IMHO No. Hough's defense would slow them down considerably. Joe Cox was great though. Having Knotts you NEVER bet against. We saw Hough beat Dutch Fork and I think athletes today are just better than in 04. These past 20 years football has gotten better.
The majority were East Charlotte but a bunch migrated over to Indy from various CMS schools to play for them. Indy doesn't have a great natural talent base. Id say C or B- natural talent. Creeks base talent base is A+ best in Charlotte. The issue they have now is guys are electing to not attend MC. The further MC gets away from Palmieiri the more their mystique diminishes. They have great talent, but watch Chambers and WC. If they are able to sustain their success it will cut into MC even more. MC now competes with WC, ambassador, Corvian, Hough, and Chambers for MC area talent. The haul of guys Chambers was able to get this off season was impressive and should concern MC alot as those guys typically run to MC.
Agree 100%. Hard to compare as all CMS teams got transfers during their heydays, but what Hough has gotten in 26 is never heard off. They literally got 2-3 All Americans, 2-3 All state, and 7 D1 guys on top of what they already had.
Didn't Billy Wiggins transfer to Indy from West Charlotte back in the day?
Indy got several WC guys during their run. Wiggins, Lyons, Abdul Rahim-Malik, and Rod Chisholm to just name a few. Indy got a bunch of transfers during their run. But it was the school environment and excellent coaching that made the difference. Thats why Hough Grimsley and Weddington are so tough right now. they have diversity and great school environments with great coaching.
There were transfers for sure back in those days, some Butler guys went to Indy and vice versa. The core of the teams were guys who stayed at the school and were on the JV squads. Some of these teams nowadays are reloading primarily through highly rated transfers.
Mallard Creek point is interesting, it shocked me when Chambers became a power because they were mostly mediocre in since 1997. I never understood the appeal given how successful Mallard Creek became.

There has always been transfers. Greensboro Page back in the day had transfers, the great Winston Salem Carver teams of the late 1990' early 2000's had transfers. Even the 2007 Hoggard state champs had transfers from so that's not a new thing. I would say the first true regional or national power was the Indy teams under Knotts. Now some of the teams that I think were some of the best I have seen/coached against were
