I know you're a protégé of Eyes, but this is NIU. We're talking about competitive programs like Michigan and Ohio State. Drops and bad passes aren't going to give us a chance against elite talent.
Eh not worried about the drops - passing game was fine. If you convert some of the dropped balls the passing game looked awesome

We had 500 yards today. We had just short of 200 yards passing at half and hardly tried in the second half. Heck was pressing to catch Brown's stats. His throws were slightly off target that led to lots of drops.

I'm not convinced either guy can hold up against the best competition. But at the end of the day it's looking like outside of Ohio State and Washington, the Hawks should have enough firepower and solid enough QB play to win games. They have multiple talented RBs, an OL that seems versatile, and some dynamic playmakers. Drops were a concern, but I actually think that will get cleaned up. A bit more concerning were a few wide open throws (2 for TDs) that were missed. The 2nd half looked really vanilla. Not sure if was intentional or just some wearing down due to the heat.
Guys need to make some big plays/throws. The Heck pass to Diaz on the sideline was a big time throw. Hank made a couple of big time throws. But Iowa will need a few more explosive plays in the passing game, I think, to really elevate. But they also seem to have the potential to maul people. That's encouraging.
Michigan won a National Championship by mauling teams with the Oline/running game and using enough play-action passing to get some chunk plays. That type of offense requires discipline and an avoidance of negative plays/penalties. And a defense that can keep the team in the game. Today looked good, but will have a better idea after ISU.
No one should be pessimistic at this point. The coaches gave themselves the freedom to treat this game like a Kinnick scrimmage to find out what they have on this team.
In the process of learning they destroyed a team they should destroy. Everything is still on track for greatness. That 3-game gauntlet just turned into a 2-game briar-patch.

Hank (And Sullivan for that matter) can do everything Hecklinski can do and, IMO, throws a much better ball.

I was meaning I'm generally pessimistic and I thought people were overreacting. Even some of my concerns were lifted a bit.
The drops were a process of throws being on the wrong side of where they wanted the ball. Need to be caught but also need to be thrown better. They also had too many overthrows but we at least we took chances. Heck, in particular, was not accurate. I think Diaz and RVZ looked really good. Wanted to see some more targets for James. Buie had a nice catch. TEs are all solid.
I'm still not sold on RB depth. Jackson already looked like what I was hoping McNeil would look like Xavier Williams has moments where he looks good, others where he can't get going. Overall, just need to see them more. Phillips needs to get healthy.
Was hoping he'd show us what he's got yesterday, but he didn't. Moulton by far looked the best of the backs. We'll see what happens against isu
Camp starts 30 days before the first game, so that is correct. They haven’t been doing that.

Thank goodness BG dumped the worst OC in the country so that we could build a respectable offense, because we’ve got more ranked teams to play this year…
Receivers don't automatically start catching balls they didn't handle previously.

Could have been the heat. A lot of the drops were by DJV, RVZ and Diaz. All 3 have either proven to be reliable pass catchers or touted as such.
Also I thought a lot of them were on the east side looking up at the sun - the partial shade/sun can mess with you

Maybe the sun just happened to be in a receiver’s absolute worst position at those times…but the heat? Nah.
On top of that, 99% of football receivers today wear gloves that are almost unimaginably sticky.
Outside of the sun being directly in your eyeballs, catch the damn ball. Show me zero silly drops next Saturday.
Who is the WR coach?
Heat can affect concentration in addition to humidity making it slippery. Not saying that’s what it was but all 3 of those guys have of history of producing, is my point.
