Does there seem to be an air of excitement with the fans for the start of a new PSU football era under Coach Campbell?
Anyone inside Beaver Stadium? Hows the crowd looking?

Not inside the stadium yet but in the parking lot there’s a lot more good energy that you’d typically see for an opener against a big underdog. New coach and stadium renovations are likely a big part of it.
Are your seats in the West stands? Curious on how the reno looks.
Penn State's stadium is not the only one in the state with a nice new look. The pitters installed some nice tarps over about half the seats in their stadium to disguise the fact that they get a putrid attendance at their games. However, the tarp doesn't cover enough. At today's game the real attendance is at most 10,000 sleepy fans. Why the state keeps subsidizing pitt football with taxpayer money is puzzling. Just let it die.
I'm in the north deck but walked through the west to check it out. I think the reno will be fantastic when it's finished.

The stadium was ok as far as energy goes but it was sunny and hot. It was also Marshall.
the sound system was the same, horrible.
The new deck casts a long weird shadow on the files.
Music was skewed to the students and players s it should be. A couple of old standards for everyone including Sweet Caroline….meeeehhhh
Played Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5. Nice.
idle boards seemed to be about the same as last season. Graphics seemed different but that may just be an aging memory.
Probably 90,000 in the stadium to start the game. Tgar left when the team was up 38/0 and many folks were still sticking around.
All in all, a nice afternoon. No big surprises with the stadium. That new upper deck is a monster.
Retire the Stripe out. It’s lame and looks like a series of bruises. It’s really bad and blue looks more like black than anything else.

No “make some noise” and no “who’s ready for the 4th quarter”. There is a God.
I’m going to disagree with Tgar. Near the end of the game the band was miked up and I thought it sounded really good.
I thought the sound system quality was dramatically improved. Volume of the band was noticeably louder and cleaner.
looked to me like there were a lot of video board issues on the North End. Maybe it was my angle. Curious is anybody else noticed.
They did play the MAKE SOME NOISE at least twice. Was not often though.
I was surprised at the large open seating areas on the new upper west side. I know the announced attendance is not an accurate reflection of butts in the seats. If capacity is 107K, there were no more than 80K there.
The wider concourses are nice.
Did they reduce the number of refreshment stands?
I really liked the new grab and go food stands adjacent to the outdoor family area under the east stands last year. They cut the options in half today. Assuming that is permanent. Hopefully not.
Marshall has one of the friendliest fanbases I’ve encountered
We looked like a refreshingly well coached team today.
Wish we could have dominated them on the ground regardless of Marshall’s D philosophy. I’m not sure the 1-2 RB’s are the best 1-2. Why did Peoples leave OSU?

The NJ tax dollars bumping up the state university of NJ didn't work out so well.
Pitt has been snorting at the public trough for decades.
I was on the west side. The addition was great but not many food options where I was at. Plenty of room. No waiting for restrooms. Sound system was much improved. 90k is a good estimate of actual attendance. The new facial recognition stadium entry option was amazing. Zero waiting in line.
Except that it has a higher academic ranking that PA's flagship "state" university.
Love the wider concourse! Entry and movement within the stadium was so much better! I was in EHU and the West Side is a beast. The Upper West Side was maybe 2/3 full.

Yeah it felt like 100 degrees when the sun was out and would drop to 60 degrees when a cloud rolled over. The temperature change was wild.
Was anybody else super annoyed and a bit shocked at how the field looked in the 3rd quarter? PSU now has one of the ugliest views during afternoon games because of the massive shadow cast onto the field by the new expansion. Watching on TV made the game not much fun to "watch/experience."

I was at the game and shadow patterns never crossed my mind. I had no problems following the action on the field. A lot of stadiums cast shadows if the game starts at a certain time of the day. Shadows will also be a non-issue for noon starts and night games. It's a shame though that the perceived ugliness ruined your experience.
Glad you had a great time at the game. Wish I could have been there. Must have been a cool atmosphere with all the "new" elements of PSU football.
Ruined might be too strong a word. It was definitely a big distraction. I don't want to be a Donnie-Downer because I enjoyed the game overall but the field ended up being a distraction for me. Check out the 3:30 home opener vs Nevada last year during the 3rd qtr to see the difference in TV perspective.

The shadows were not a problem at all in person. I think the high contrast of TV production makes it stand out more. Cameras have trouble picking light or dark when presented together and the sun was blaring off the stands as the shadows crept onto the field.
Once we get to October, 330 games will have the lights on so I don’t think it’ll be a problem moving forward
Did you have more than one ticket on your account for the facial recognition? And how did it work? Also do you have to register for facial recognition for each game or is it for the season and, if so, what happens when you sell your tickets? Just curious as it is a PIA to give the tickets to others in our group of 4.
Should’ve saved that for Fleck and the Gophers. Oh well, hockey will do it right inside Pegula.
I didn't notice the shadows and I had no problem at all following the ball from EHU.
All of the tickets on your account get in with just one facial recognition. If you transfer or sell the tickets then they would need the facial recognition. I set it up from my tailgate. Took a selfie through the link they gave me. Really easy. I assume it's good for all season but I didn't research it much.

I'm trying to convince myself it's the unfinished PSU "Deathstar". To start the third quarter, the team should come back out on the field to the Imperial March music.
I love the idea!! Don't let the university see that though. Instead of "WE ARE", they'll use the shadows for advertising, weather permitting of course.
