The WMU player touched the ball out of bounds which (apparently) by rule gave Michigan another play

You can call the rule stupid... that's fine...it's a random rule

But you can't call it fake because it exists

What don't you get?

The President of WMU literally went public that he talked to his own coaches and his own conference commis and they said "that's the rule"

Son...you are wrong
You are an idiot. The refs and review booth said there was one second left. There clearly was not.

You are arguing for an illegal tough call - which is a bait and switch. That was never part of the referee discussion. Had it been called, which it was not, it would have to have been called a pentalty on the field which is not reviewable. Nor was that what they were reviewing anyway. You are a piece of **** just like your cheating team. Not surprised you are arguing for what every other unbiased, non-piece-of-**** human can see for their own eyes.

80% of your Michigan fan base is admitting they should have lost. No point in arguing with stupid, yet here I am I guess….

Do you go to every single Big Ten forum on the internet and make sure there is no anti-Michigan wrong-think?
Nah...just here to see if you (and I mean you specifically) are saying something uneducated.

It is my purpose in life to make sure those that are eligible to vote, drive a car and operate heavy machinery have at least a decent amount of common sense.

Still got some work to do with you...I have hope though

No...I'm not an idiot

They put 1 second back because of the "illegal touch"

I honestly don't agree with the rule and think we should of lost...

But I didn't write the rule book

And oh...you are a clueless

But there is no "illegal touch" when the clock has already hit zero and there is evidence for everyone to see that it did.

I saw somewhere that it was determined that there was 0.04 seconds left when the WMU player touched the ball. When you look at the video the B10 is showing perhaps so, after the initial touch the clock almost immediately goes to zero.

So my big question is if they can adjudicate the end of the play to literally hundreths of a second, should they not go back and look at the start of the play too?

Very possible, and perhaps likely, a tenth of a second elapsed after the ball was snapped and the play clock was started.

Why not review that too?
And now can any team challenge a delay-of-game call?

Take it up with the commissioner of the MAC who said he agreed with the call...

Don't know what to tell you... I'm not proud of this win...not happy about this team...

It is what it is though...it is a stupid rule

The commissioner of the MAC hopes to be a bigger conference commissioner some day. He's making an astute career move here.

Then Whittingham should forfeit the game. He knows it was wrong, so be one of the greatest heroes in college football--hell--sports history and take the loss. Refuse to accept the cheating. Show that you value integrity over winning. Coaches say that all the time. He would be revered by all honest and decent people everywhere. It would be the greatest thing Michigan has ever done. And it would be right. Michigan didn't deserve the "win," and W. Michigan didn't deserve the "loss." Go ahead, Whittingham. Do it. Show the world what decency and integrity really mean.
i would selfishly prefer that michigan not do this coz then whittingham truly might be able to rally those guys to play good football going forward. right now they have to all be psychologically damaged with that fake w

A player touched the ball out of bounds after time expired. Therefore, one more play is mandated...

Are you listening to yourself??

We cannot. The clock has CLEARLY hit zero before the WMU player touched the ball. Now go home, ****tard.
I'd tell you to go home but I don't consider your trailer to be proper housing

Fwiw

Can we agree that the call was correct according to the rules?

We can also agree that it was a loophole that allowed Michigan to win a game and they got outplayed.

We can agree the rule sucks

The rules are fine. No one has seen indisputable evidence that rules were applied fairly. How is this that difficult for you?

No one has seen this clock with .4 left on it when the ball was touched. We all see the ball two feet above any player when the clock hits zero.

No one has shown clear indisputable evidence that the player who touched the ball actually jumped from out of bounds or illegally touched it. It’s close, but definitely not indisputable from anything we’ve seen.

The B1G cheated for Michigan and that’s what is embarrassing to the rest of us. Far beyond Michigan actually losing to WMU which is pretty embarrassing.

Somehow Dave Witvoet is involved in this.
I was eating a meal and having a brew in Des Moines and Witvoet was at the next table with some of his crew that did the Iowa at ISU game. We talked with them some, I didnt say anything about how he screw the hawks against Mich on many occasions. It was some fun banter as we were talking about games on the sports pub's tvs. They were nice but he has made some screwy calls

That would be very difficult to keep quiet in that situation.

As of last year, Dave Witvoet was still a replay official. Not sure if he retired but he’s in his low 70’s. I would not be surprised if he was somehow involved in this call.

I was taking as much pleasure in seeing Michigan fall as anyone and was sure WMU got screwed. Looking closer the officials may have actually gotten it right.

Everybody sites the pics with the scoreboard clock hitting :00 but that is not the official clock. I recall a game at Kinnick where the officials made an in-game announcement that the scoreboard clock was not accurate and the actual time was being kept in the booth.

There are shots of the "box" camera or screen where officials review things and it does show more than .00. Like it or not, this may have been the correct call.

Heres my issue that nobody is talking about. If the stadium clock and official game clock isn't 100% matched up with each other, then everytime theres a delay of game penalty, can it be reviewed to see if the ball was in play with time still on the official clock that is hidden from everyone?
Stadium clock is the official clock. But yes the opens the door to review every play when the clock is involved. Huge mess,

This entire argument boils down to one, and only one thing: Was the time shown on NBC's broadcast in sync with the stadium clock on the field?

The following elements should be agreeable by everyone:

1. The stadium clock is the official clock. It is the clock seen by the coaches, players, and officials.
2. When the stadium clock hits zero, there is no time left.
3. Pertaining to the events of the game in question, when a player leaves the ground after stepping out-of-bounds, the ball is dead and the clock stops as soon as the ball touches the player.

Therefore, the question becomes whether the ball touched the out-of-bounds player prior to the STADIUM CLOCK reaching zero. No other clock matters, not NBC's clock displayed on the TV screen, not some secret Chicago office clock.

In the past, the clock displayed on the screen was an actual camera shot of the stadium clock inserted into the broadcast picture. I don't know if they still do that.

Some people have suggested that there may have been some type of electronics delay between the stadium clock and NBC's displayed clock, but such a delay would have resulted in NBC's clock showing MORE time left.

Two things could clear this up:

1. NBC could investigate and explain how they achieve the clock they display, and reveal any potential or discovered anomalies that could or did cause a discrepancy.
2. If a video exists from inside the stadium showing a clear view of the end of the play and the on-field or on-scoreboard game clock in the same frames, it may be possible to verify the timing of events. Perhaps the Big Ten could release details of this "Hawkeye" system and how they determine the game clock time in the replays they are reviewing.

The Big Ten should be working with NBC to fully explain this time discrepancy to either prove the call right, or prove it wrong. They should do it quickly, because if nothing else comes out about this I think it will prove very damaging to the conference.

Well said.

I'm sure videos will surface but my guess is 0.00 on the Stadium clock or they would not have reviewed and gave the 4 tenths explanation.

It's supposed to be, but it isn't. That's the damn point. And unlike you, I don't exist in a vacuum.
None of us exist in a vacuum. We all have opinions. It's not about that. It's about understanding the venue that you're operating in and tailoring the discussion to what others are here to discuss. What you're doing here isn't productive. Nor does it benefit your agenda, which is probably pretty close to mine FWIW.

You could be right, but the real questions are these. Even if technically correct, would the conference have gone to such lengths to extend the game if the roles were reversed? If WMU needed a Hail Mary to win? Would they have gone to these same lengths for any team not named Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, USC? I think we all know the answer.

There is an official clock that relays the time to the stadium clock...it's on this thing called a computer...yes...those exist now

Want to hear something crazy...they have these nerdy looking guys that set them up at stadiums around the country...these nerdy guys set up this whole system using wires and stuff in which actual time can be sent to different people instantly and be reviewed

Yeah I know...sounds like something made up but I assure you the computer things are real...and so are the wires

Dave Witvoet is literally the only CFB referee that I know by name. There's a reason for that and it's not because of his ability to call the game fairly.
