Very interesting to hear how outspoken Merritt was with splitting halves last year…

It’s clear to me that we want no one else in goal. That lady has got quite the head in her shoulders, and I love it.

What a blast.
The Tar Heel crowd was outstanding.
The atmosphere was not unlike the end of year tournaments.
In the second half, it got dadgum hot in the stands. No hydration breaks for the players.
And yes, some Women and Men national team players attended the game.
You know who without my saying, right?
Two different parents and not the same as before told me that they expect Imme De Leeuw to be available next weekend.
From the stands, I thought 1st yr subs Molly Nussbaumer and Cecily Moorheaad played well.
(I hope to watch the streaming broadcast on demand.)
When Reid Miller learns to better control the ball and with her foot speed, will that not be fun to watch?
The players' dad cheer loudly but the moms all cheer non stop.
What fun.

Crowd was great

Could have been a sellout had it not been Labor Day weekend

Great win, especially for such a very young team. Our inexperience showed at times, frequently being impatient advancing the ball in the midfield. Handling pressure at this level takes time to adjust to. Princeton's strategy was to speed us up and it largely worked.

She said that last year helped her develop more by splitting goalie's last year. Remember the goalie last year was a senior that was also All ACC, etc. There was no way that Merritt was going to beat her out for the starting spot. I think EM made the right call because by doing that they gave Merritt valuable experience and it expedited her development and it also help the team just in case one of the goalies got hurt and had to be out for awhile. I think EM will need to do the same this year by playing two goalies just in case Merritt should have a bad game or she happens to get hurt or something. IMO, you have to be prepared for the worst which is players sustaining injuries. Also the flow of the game will dictated whether or not to let one of the goalies play the entire game. It will be a judgment call that EM will have to make during the flow of the game. I like the two goalie system because you want to develop the young goalies, you one the goalies that you recruit out of high school to know that you will play them; otherwise, you will risk them leaving at the end of the year or they will not come.

Thanks for sharing. It is okay to mention the players that attended from the US women's and men's national team. Some of us might not know who you are referring too since there is a lot of different spots playing right now, college and professional football, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, etc. I will put the names of the women that I think you are talking about for those who are not sure. Reese D, R. Heck, etc. Just go ahead and tell us. It should not matter as long as EM and staff are not doing it. I have been watching all of the other teams play so I might get the names mixed up. Please post the names for us readers.

The women’s national team members in attendance were Ryleigh Heck (grad assistant unless she gets a 5th year), Dani Mendez (grad assistant unless she gets a 5th year), and Katie Dixon (sitting with her parents). Not sure if I missed anyone. No idea why the above post was so secretive about this.

Thank-you, Job1937.
No secret.
My internet has been up and down more than the ponies on the Myrtle Beach Merry-Go-Round.
Maintenance they say...
I may get dropped again.
Dani is no longer listed on the senior women's team roster.
(On Aug 15th she was listed as a non-traveling reserve for the WC team but was excluded on the team's Media Guide. We are told she made other plans which were dashed.)
Miss D'Ariano was there.
The men's team are not well known.
When they practice, it is at 6:00am.
They do not host friendlies.
The college infrastructure for them is rare, perhaps only in California.
Mehtab Grewal was there with 2 others whose face I recognize but have not talked with.
Princeton assistant coach Patrick Harris is a team member and actually played with the women's team last year at KSS when both sides were so limited in numbers. In my opinion, he is quiet good. For example, he "caught" an aerial pass on the end of his stick, controlled it, eased it to the pitch and then passed it to an open teammate.
Fun stuff.
And, of course, I could have missed someone.

Thanks for sharing. I do not know why that person was so secretive. I know RA is on the National team as well. I thought maybe she was in attendance too since the poster stated members of the USA National team was in attendance and that person implied that we should know who they are.

Never seen a GK that proactive on shootouts duels, and man Skubisz looked completely in control on those first three attempts. Brilliant! She had already earned the starting role for the foreseeable future in regulation, but that was easily the ACC POTW performance by games end!
Skubisz: ACC DPOW
Ferri: ACC OPOW

This week's NFHCA Plays of the Week include Sofia's SO game winning goal.

(Dook vs Maryland)

Both are toward the end.

Super excited to see Ferri keep getting better week by week.

O’Donell has also been showing signs.

Like the tall trees behind the team benches at Karen Shelton Stadium (KSS), the
histories of ODU and UNC cast long shadows. Their rivalry spans decades.

Karen Shelton and Beth Anders were teammates on the 1984 USWNT Field Hockey squad
that won an Olympic Bronze Medal. Beth Anders was a forward and Coach Shelton, a
defender. One held fast to the notion that the forward position was more valuable
than the defender. The intensity of that rivalry did not wan with the 2012
retirement of Coach Anders. Coach Shelton wanted to defeat ODU like Roy Williams
did/does NC State.

Michael Jordan is credited with saying, "And I took that personally." One might
attribute that sentiment to Coach Shelton. If you ever heard her "hold court" on
an ODU match, you knew.

The numbers are there if you are interested. I will list this. ODU won 9 Natties
with Beth Anders at their helm. Coach Shelton 10.

As we know, the baton was seamlessly passed to EM: the 11th natty in 2023. ODU
has not won another since 2000. (If they were easy to come by, they would be
handed out with Happy Meals.)

"Take it one day at a time." "Focus on the next game." "Improve." "Work on
fundamentals." "Trust the process."

The phrase I am waiting to hear is "Stay humble." Of course, Coach Shelton said
that to her teams that included Erin Matson, who continues the UNC legacy and is
remarkably humble while doing it.

Go Heels. Beat ODU.

Below is a link to an article by William Soulé who also compiles Box Scores for FH home matches.

That is followed by Games Notes for ODU today and Sunday against the Richmond Spiders.

Wow! Quick start. Great pass from Hope from our defensive end to Reese in mid field who carried into the circle and found Ella infront of cage.

Imme must not be participating in warmups anymore, and appears to have a visible limp from the broadcast. I thought a poster noted last weekend that she was participating in warm ups.. She also did not participate with the teams on field run sequence after lineups are announced.

Maybe she reinjured something?

Skubitz might be the best goalie in the county.

Might have won the Iowa game if she was in the net. That was a learning weekend though, so no problem with her not starting that game.
