My mind meandered wondering who might be our best wildcat candidate. Apparently Lutmer was a h.s. qb. He's my guy unless Diaz or james have qb experience. Other?

Wildcat has run its course. Play the QB so the defense has to respect the pass instead of loading up against the run.
I miss Grono in these situations, he was so good and the D had to account for him.
With Nate against most teams we didn't care who the defense accounted for. On fourth and one (maybe fourth and two) you've got a four-yard gain and a first down

First thing dont get too cute. If it is first and goal from the 5 or less then mostly show big time power run, maybe from shotgun, and you have the handoff power run or the QB read the defensive end and keep the ball.
Run what will get you a good few yards most times.
Also, checking to a pass play on first down if the box is loaded is ok and shows the opponent they cant sell out 9 guys on the run.

If/when Brown is in at QB, I wonder if we look to run that Sullivan type package we did a few years back...Heck can run the zone read much better and a bit more slippery. Especially if we continue to struggle inside the 10, we were certainly spoiled with MG back there last year.

Hank Brown was pretty effective on the sneak in week 1. I think QB sneak U will be back once he wins out.
If Hecklinski is as good of a scrambler as people have said he is, he could fill the role occupied by Brendan Sullivan in 2024 to start that season where he was brought in for red zone packages to provide more of a run/pass option element.
The only ways I don't see that happening is if Hecklinski isn't as advertised, AND/OR Brown wins the QB job outright and shows that Iowa can be effective and efficient scoring TDs in the redzone, rather than wasting multiple possessions having Phillips or McNeil run straight dives into the as* crack of our Center 2 or even 3 plays in a row......................

The solution is blatantly obvious and simple. Inside the 3 yard line, they just need to call more touchdown plays.

Get to the line in good tempo and get the ball snapped, fire off, and avoid pre-snap penalties. Tempo seemed a bit off with rotating QB's and personnel in game 1.
Yeah, this is what they did with Sullivan when it was clear McNamara couldnt run very well.
