Definitely sad--he was a great ambassador of the game when he moved into the studio. Not the best coach but he found his niche and truly helped grow the popularity of the sport.

Parkinson’s is such a strange disease.

Main Contributing Factors
    • Loss of Dopamine: When neurons in a brain area called the substantia nigra die or become damaged, dopamine levels drop. This chemical messenger controls smooth, purposeful movement, so its loss leads to tremors, stiffness, and slowed movement. [1, 2, 3]
    • Genetics: Specific gene mutations (such as LRRK2, PRKN, and SNCA) are directly linked to rare, inherited forms of Parkinson's. However, genetics account for only about 10% to 15% of all cases. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
    • Environmental Triggers: Long-term exposure to certain toxins, agricultural pesticides, or well water may increase the risk of developing the condition. [1, 2]
    • Cellular Changes: Scientists often find abnormal clumps of protein called Lewy bodiesinside the brain cells of people with Parkinson's, which disrupt normal cellular functions. [1]
    • Age: Advanced age remains the single largest risk factor, as the disease is diagnosed most frequently in older adults. [1, 2]

Now all we need is the @laKavosiey-st lion net worth estimate and the thread will be complete.

R.I.P., to one of the most recognizable guys that we non-hockey guys have ever known.

We in Carolina held Barry in high regard. When the Canes were new to Carolina and in the Stanley Cup in 2006, the hockey media and ESPN took a lot of pot shots at hockey in the south. Remember, ESPN was super tight with the Hartford Whalers (that's who moved to Carolina and became the Hurricanes) and there was considerable bitterness over the move. ESPN played into that whenever they could. Most Carolina fans were pissed but it was Barry who pointed out that the fans were enthusiastic and that Carolina was good for the game as it got hockey into more American households and increased fan support for the NHL as a whole. He was often treated as a sideshow by both ESPN and before that by Hockey Night on CBC but he was dead on and one hell of an analyst from the player perspective. He even predicted the Canes would win in 2006 due to their speed, not brawn. RIP Barry. You were original and willing to go against the grain.
