The reason we need to honor Joe is because the opportunity to do it when we were supposed to....was taken away.
Honoring Joe is as much as about completing our journey as fans and alums as it is to actually honor the man.
That may sound selfish, but it's my take.

For too long, outsiders and people with agendas have been trying to control our thinking, speech and desires to celebrate Joe and the accomplishments of the teams during his tenure. They say, “don’t you dare do it!” I’m tired of outsiders and agenda people sticking their noses where they don’t belong. I’m glad Terry wore the 409 pin and spoke up. I’m glad Freddie Scott is speaking up. I’m glad the new west side highlights section 409. I’m glad the sports museum is honoring Paterno. I’m glad Coach Campbell wore black shoes with white laces and said success with honor. I’m glad the hockey team wore 409 stickers. I did not like that Sandy criticized the sticker. They were trying to take away a big part of PSU’s identity: the accomplishments of the football teams during Joe’s tenure and Joe himself. Unrivaled was telling us that we have no identity. Fifteen years is enough. Recognize those teams and Joe, and ignore the noise. The people making the noise don’t matter, they don’t contribute in any way to PSU.

More than a fair take. It seems as if between the museum and section 409 this is occurring. Looping in Sue to talk to the team I believe may have also occurred, so it's occurring just in drips instead of one big splash....which maybe that does happen in the near future.
But he would want the player’s plaques put back..
And it’s got to be done while Sue can still enjoy it and be showered with the adulations she deserves just like the Royal she is.
The time to honor Joe was when his integrity and character was impugned. You know, when he was alive and really needed support. Nothing about Joe has changed since then. What has changed is that cowards now feel safe to come out of hiding.....or perhaps because someone in an administrative or trustee position sees dollars signs in "resurrecting" Joe to fill the sagging NIL war chest.
Make no mistake, I'm a proud Joebot and if recognizing Joe for his contributions to PSU (and make no mistake about it he was much more than a football coach) can bring peace to Sue and his children I'm all for it. But, the past 15 years have made me skeptical and it doesn't smell right.

Saying "Why Penn State honoring Joe Paterno Still Matters" is like saying "Why the United States Honoring George Washington Still Matters" or "Why Apple Computer Company Honoring Steve Jobs Still Matters". It is an obvious rhetorical statement.
