DePaul 0, Immaculate Conception 33, IC starters pulled, and I'm signing-off.

In some sense I was around. I've read this page for nearly a decade, although I only started posting this year, so I remember we'll the reception they got for it. Also, their chance of winning that game isn't zero. They're probably 2-3 touchdown underdogs.
Agree, and that's a far cry from saying you need to sit starters for fear of not beating Byron. Iron sharpens iron so being pushed by Loyola goes a long way towards beating a team like Byron.

All that gets talked about here is how tough a CCL schedule is, well if you duck the tough competition then how tough is it?

Yes. The choices would be 11, 19, 9, 7, 1. One of those would have to crack the number two spot on another 3A team
It's an interesting question, but it goes beyond my knowledge of the sport. Having watched them a couple times this year, though, I can say that they have a distinct speed advantage over other teams. I remember playing Madden on Rookie-mode as a kid and having my players running circles around the computer's, and that's what IC looks like out there.

Don't you think it matters that Loyola is the largest school in the CCL, while IC is one of the smallest?

No.

So using that logic Rochester should have sat it's starters when they played Batavia. LeWin didn't shy away from Benet. Should Leo bench it's starters when they play IC?

Just because a game is tough and you likely won't win is no reason to just concede. That's just a cowards mentality.

I still find it disanalogous. IC will be the significant favorite in every other game they play this year. They don't need to win that game.

Agree, so just forfeit and take the week off. That's a great message to send to kids. Geez, Loyola is a tough team, we want no part of that so we'll take our ball and go home until we can play a winable game.

You'd make an amazing motivational coach. When the tough get going, give up.

I don't think we're seeing this the same way, so allow me to switch gears.

We should have fewer playoff classes. There's just not that much difference between classes 3, 4, 5, and 6, and that's an indication that consolidation is necessary. What do you think?

Now you're completely changing the subject. Regardless of how many classes, the way the CCL works IC would still play Loyola in the regular season.

I agree on going back to 6 classes, but to say there's not much difference between 3A-6A is crazy. So Byron is on a similar level as Fenwick? Provi and ESL are in the same ballpark?

Yes, I changed it intentionally, because I don't really enjoy arguments.

Here's my take on it. From what I keep hearing, East St. Louis is going to 7A. So if you do a bracket with the top two teams in each class (IC, Byron, Montini, Rochester, Mahonet-Seymour, Providence, Geneva, Fenwick), there's really no class that has a distinct advantage.

And of those 8 teams, I'm willing to bet 7 of them would play their starters against Loyola. Much like Rochester did a few years ago on short notice. Got pounded, but at least they took the game and tried instead of ducking a tough game.

Are your favorite college games where a top 10 team plays an FCS team because it's an easy win with no chance of the top team being challenged?

I don't really follow college football. Is that akin to scheduling a random CPL school in non-con?

This is a different IC team than it was two years ago. How many DI kids does IC have, 3 or 4? You think those kids don’t want to challenge a storied 8A program? Try to shock the world! I would hope they give Loyola their best shot. Complete cowardice if they don’t.
