A long time ago, the skunks decided athletes are one kind of people and students are another. Well documented. Don’t confuse the two. This is no surprise. Sometimes the inmates act poorly on their way to the NFL, the NBA or the local car factory.

I'll play Lando.
You keep referring to the term hazing. I googled this and saw torture and sexualized hazing just as often. Detroit Free Press used the term graphic and shocking. Somewhere I read blowtorch to the genitals. I think the OP was refering to the level of coverage for the Penn State scandal to the coverage UM gets. I also googled UM has paid $490 million in settlements for the Robert Anderson complaints. [ and I believe I read even Bo's son said has said Bo knew] You're very comments minimizing theses issues helps make the point that the national coverage an institution gets dramatically impacts the lasting impression a University has.
You thought it was ideal to Google it and not read the suit which is available? Interesting decision.
Hazing was the term repeatedly used in the suit. Not once did I state there wasn't an assault nor did I say it wasn't sexual in nature. I said it doesn't compare to a pedophile
I understood he was talking about the ESPN's coverage of it which existed because of the public outrage not the other way around. Paterno became the story because the general public loves a fall from grace especially when a fan base that preaches "doing things the right way" start defending a pedophile...which is still happening today.
The coverage is dependent on the story. This is on the front page of ESPN and was a lead story. If the public cared about it then it would have taken on a life of its own.
Generally...the public cares about the abuse of children then women. Not 18-24 year old males violating each other under the "hazing" title. You get that, right?
These are also nameless people blaming a University for failure to stop the behavior. There's no villain (Sandusky) or a legend that eventually knew.
You see the differences...right?
People are still so emotional about how the media handled the Paterno aspect of the Sandusky scandal they have this unhealthy need for others to suffer the same fate. It's irrational. If anything we should have learned from it so it never happens again.

Not to mention having objects literally forced into their a$$holes. Does that legally qualify as anal rape?
According to FBI.gov, the legal definition of rape is:

Under federal statistical standards set by the FBI UCR Program, rape is defined as the penetration of the ****** or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ, without the consent of the victim.

USA Today said the players described the abuse as "torture," and described the allegations:

Imagine how proud you would be as a parent as your son accepts a scholarship to play hockey at the University of Michigan.

But then he comes home for Christmas and describes a victim factory where he was anally raped and tortured, but his teammates and coaches assured him this was just a rite of passage in becoming a Michigan Man.

Reminds me of the scene when Pinnochio goes to Pleasure Island as a boy and leaves as a donkey.

It's more about holding people to the same standards that they imposed on Penn State.
That's not true at all. It's petty and bitter over what transpired and instead of our fan base treating others how they wish they treated us we're doing the same. It's hypocrisy. The reality is...most here would have attacked any other program and coach the way others attacked us. We're supposed to learn...not repeat the same mistakes but alas here we are.

Have you thought of changing your name to “I am the Pope” ? Or “peace be with You” ? Or maybe just straight to “Kumbaya” ?

Why did you bring it up if you're not comparing it?
Did you read the suit? It states "hazing" repeatedly. Over and over and over again
You're saying Paterno didn't know? He did--he handled it correctly but he knew--as did other leaders
You're so angry about how ESPN handled Sandusky (primarily due to the incompetence of the Penn State leaders) that your first thought was being petty.
Giving you one more opportunity to realize how far off base you were...
You want to compare an adult male raping minor children to hazing acts that crossed a line between 18-22 year olds?
You also think the general public would care enough for ESPN to do so?
Just giving you the change to rethink your flawed stance here
To diminish this as just “hazing” is unnecessary to make your point. All are horrible. Doing it to children is worse, but it’s all horrible. Inserting a razor blade handle into somebody’s anus against their will is rape. Touching the genitals of another person against their will is sexual assault:

Other players also reported additional abuse that occurred in conjunction with the shaving, according to the lawsuit. That includes blowtorches singing pubic hair, razor blade handles penetrating a player's anus and multiple other circumstances where younger players either were forced to expose their genitals or had older players touch their genitals.

Read what I said again
And why do you believe the allegations?

I’ve read what you’ve said. I would never refer to sexual assault as hazing. Sexual assault is sexual assault, even if it’s part of a hazing ritual.
I believe the allegations because this stuff was commonplace in hockey for years. I remember reading years ago that Ed Hospodar annoyed his Rangers teammates so much that they twice shaved him and shoved the butt end of a hockey stick covered in liniment oil up his ***. It was part of the hockey culture, weird as it is.

Read the suit. They're using the term hazing.
