Quite a 180 from last week for themOnce again - a new 1st year head coach pulls a huge upset - something Greg hasn’t done (at least in 2.0 era).
congrats to OkSt!!
He’s got two new coordinators, Mehringer is their new OC. Both were internal promotions. One year can make a huge difference. OSU had 91 transfers or something, bad start against Tulsa. I think Oregon is a victim of this new era. You have many players getting paid a lot of $$$ and often not respecting the opposition, thinking they don’t have to grind. Lanning is struggling with that. Like Schiano , a very fundamental coach who may not be the right guy for this brave new world of college football.

i think Lanning is fine, he just may need to rethink the staff if things don’t improve.
Not everyone is as seamless and Saban was in replacing staff and that was also in a pre NIL and portal era.

Okay I can go along pressure building over time. I thought you meant he’s under a lot of pressure right now. I mean he is sort of because you’re right they put a lot of money into it but he’s not on any hot seat in the immediate future. He hired the coordinators. If he doesn’t win a NC in the next 2-3 years, with the money they are spending on the roster, he could be done there.
I know it’s only halftime and I’m sure Vandy will come back to win.
But has anyone mentioned Delaware’s Ryan Carty as a future HC Candidate? Young as hell, great HC record at UD and probably bring in his coordinators in as well, esp DC Manny Rojas.
Of course the same ones who says that KC Keeler sucked, they’ll same the same thing about Carty because he’s not Rex Ryan or Jon Gruden.
Good point. Fair enough.Nice job but I wonder if too big a leap from CUSA to the P2. If he can step up to a higher mid major conference like the AAC, MWC, PAC or Sun Belt and do well then I’d feel better.
I was curious to see how Lea would do after Pavia. Dogfight with Delaware…interesting to see what they do this year.

JMU 87-3 over Wagner. Real exciting game
Was scoring a TD with 22 secs left necessary ???Is a game like this necessary?
By that logic then to exaggerate the point why not a high school coach or a D2 or D3 coach right up into the P2.It’s the same game no matter the level.
woukd be a good candidate
Did Mehringer cry today? 281 yards of offense. He’s got two new coordinators, Mehringer is their new OC. Both were internal promotions.

I hate to break it to you but there has been lots of high school coaches who have successful in the college level.By that logic then to exaggerate the point why not a high school coach or a D2 or D3 coach right up into the P2.
Why do many college coaches fail in the NFL, even the most successful ones like Meyer and Saban.
Every time you step up a level, the ability of the teams you face goes up and the acumen of the coaches you face goes up.
So you want to see how a candidate does with each step up in “difficulty” so to speak. Any choice isn’t a guarantee but the more of a track record you have against better competition as you go up the ladder, the better chances that your choice might work. Of course there can exceptions like Tressel or Klieman but I don’t think it’s a bad rule of thumb to have.
I said straight into the P2 as HC. I didn’t say any old college level.I hate to break it to you but there has been lots of high school coaches who have successful in the college level.
