Not to diminish the jet sweep/flanker reverses and TEnd reverses, but it seemed like our run game was very much inside our tackles. I just dont remember hardly any wide pitches or sweeps with our RBacks. Maybe our coaches didnt think we had the speed to do this against their type of defense as ISU's outside Lbkrs are sometimes almost on the LOS.
But when you aren't opening holes up the middle then going wide gives your running back a chance to look for one block that opens a hole to dart up into or just to take the angle to the edge and stretch play it for 5-7 yards. It also makes those defenders run more and maybe get gassed on a long drive (not sure how deep ISU is with good players).
Not sure if we are holding back on some pin and pull action wide until later games but better to work on it now.
Also, remember the inside TEnd screen pass that got deflected. That play was blocked and set up well except for the deflection. The TEnd might have rumbled for good to big yardage. But I dont think we tried that play again.
Our run game just didnt have much counter action or variety inside/outside to it.
