From what I've personally seen ...

Nate made a great point the other day ... 3 head coaches (JF, TS, and MC) have all seen QM live and in person much, much, more than any of us. They've all come to the same conclusion - QM doesn't have the talent, skill, and/or attitude to be the starting running back at PSU. Maybe they know something we don't?
We have spoken. Martin is the best.

Hansen can’t win the argument this weekend. Buffalo is probably our weakest opponent of the season. If Hansen has a huge day, it’s because the defense is awful. If he struggles or even just has an average game, this topic becomes a 5 alarm blaze.
If he struggles this week, then he’s answered the question whether he should be the guy.

I don't forget it at all--he's better suited to be WR
if he was a natural RB people would have been trying to move Singleton to WR
Also, countless people here didn't think Allen was a pro back--tons of idiots here. Largely, the same ones that want Hansen on the bench for Q...who, again, is our 4th RB
Nobody thought Allen wasn’t going to be drafted. The argument was that Singleton would be taken ahead of him.

I've moved on from Franklin but apparently you haven't, because all that you've done is continue to make negative comments about Campbell and the ISU players who follwed him to PSU. All I did was set forth Franklin's record against Michigan, ND, Oregon and OSU at PSU, which was 4-20, and use that as Exhibit A about how the players he recruited as a whole just weren't good enough in several ways to win even a half of the so-called toss up games or even games in which PSU was an underdog. Maybe Campbell won't be able to recruit well enough either to win those games, but I know damn well that the last coach never was going to be able to do it, because 11 plus seasons showed me that. And I was a Franklin supporter until October 2025.
Check the recruiting rankings.

Check out how easy Virginia Tech schedule is this year. He walked into a cupcake fest, even worse than Penn State‘s schedule. If he doesn’t win nine games this year, he should be fired from that place too.
No one has an easier schedule than PSU. So it should follow that if Campbell doesn't win 9 games you agree he should be fired too?

He’s going to win a lot of games for VT and will be very popular for the next couple years. I think it’s one of those rare situations where both sides will make out well.
The BWICAC is not emotionally or intellectually equipped to entertain this concept.

I would run him sparingly this week. Perhaps 10 touches. He can't prove anything to the coaches against that Buffalo defense. I think he's already #1 with them. It's the real decision makers(here) that want a vote.

Mouser took all the blame in the press conference today for Hansen and the run game. Lots of coach speak, stuff he should say. Campbell hinted without explicitly saying it that there may be a practice issue with Martin. If that’s the case, he better get that straightened out. Campbell is old school and you gotta give it all on practice to play on Saturday.

For right now Hansen is the most consistent. I would like to see PSU make an effort to run outside.
Regarding Martin & Wallace, I think it might be they are lacking in pass protection. Savon Huggins (RB coach) has stated on several occasions that if you aren't a solid pass blocker, you aren't going to receive much PT. Right now the strength of this offense is the passing, so protecting Becht is high priority.
Martin looked extremely consistent on the bench. Looks like he can maintain that for as long as PSU wants him to.

Oh...you're wrong...many said Allen wouldn't be drafted. And the argument was Allen was taking away carries from Singleton when the opposite was true. Allen should have always been RB1. Singleton, like Allar, was drafted on talent. Allen was drafted on production

Everyone here touted the culture. Earning trust and intensity in practice is part of that culture. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that Campbell knows better than the BWICAC.

It's a fact...if he has a big day Saturday it will be dismissed while Q is elite because of the Clemson scrimmage
You have a terrible problem of confusing facts with your opinion. I guarantee if Hansen had back to back 200 yard games (or even 100 yard games) no one would want to start someone else. The FACT is he didn’t do that, he had back to back mediocre games against below average teams. The question is if he can’t have big games against the first three opponents, who can he have big games against? And are you related to Hansen? It’s the only thing that explains why you’re defending him to the death (other than your incessant need to always be right).

I don't have any issue with it
If Hansen did that people would be saying that it was against two horrible teams and Q is still more explosive and should have been getting those carries. That's how this board works
Read the quotes from our OC today--they have zero concerns about Hansen just as our fan base shouldn't but too many people here only watch Penn State football.
I love the are you related to Hansen comment just like you asked about Allar. I defend people when the fan base wrongly attacks them such as this situation and I do that for players on all teams not just my team

I would like to see Martin get some reps (not mop up) but hopefully there is a good reason he is not beyond MC has a much deeper history with Hansen than QM.

I think there is no doubt QM is more explosive but maybe he can't pass protect well. I don't know. At a minimum you would think we could call some short passes for QM coming out of the backfield since he was a WR in HS and should be more dangerous than at least Hansen is in the open field.

Hansen looks average and would get absolutely stuffed vs an Indiana D-Line or OSU D-Line but thankfully we don't play them. Michigan will most likely shut him down as their D is stout. I am sure other opponents can handle him with relative ease also.

I do agree with the poster that is saying we could lose QM if he rides the pine all year. He should at least get a shot. Right now our starting RBs are analogous to the WRs last year, meh. I am not saying Martin is the sure fire answer but he deserves more of a shot if Hansen and Peoples continue to look pedestrian.

You are kind of making up these conspiracy theories in your head. Like everyone loves Martin because he is a PSU legacy and not Hansen because he is an ISU transfer. Or everyone had it in for Allar. Everyone wanted Allar to succeed but he had the special knack of playing his worst in the biggest moments (OSU, Michigan, ND, Oregon '25) and that was incredibly frustrating since he was a 5 star recruit and was supposed to be one of the best PSU QBs ever. And no it wasn't all lousy coaching, terrible receivers and all the other excuses you desperately come up with but you don't want to hear that.

Most people on this board just want Penn State to win and don't care who is playing, former ISU, UCLA, whatever. You don't think people would have loved to see Allar carry us to a win over OSU or ND? If Hansen can get us the most wins versus QM than great. He looks a little shaky now. But if he succeeds and starts looking like a stud and we are winning than most people will not whine for QM.

People will want Q regardless of what Hansen does. That's how this works and has always worked. There's more to RB than breaking off long runs. Hansen was all Big XII. Doesn't mean he'll be all Big Ten (he won't) but he's already proven over the course of 2 seasons the intangibles and running ability he has. You're talking about wins...he's the guy that's going to win you the most games. And, yes, for many this is about Q coming here and being loyal especially from older fans who hate the portal. For the 20th time, if it wasn't about that they'd be asking for Peoples not Q.

QM may be the better running back, but not the better pass blocking back, practicing back, effort back, attitude back. So he's not a complete back. He needs to embrace the dirty work that doesn't come with the glory.

Instead of comparing him to Hansen and Peoples, compare him to Wallace. I think most here would agree he's the more talented of the 2. Yet last Saturday, early in the game, Wallace got carries. Both Hansen and Peoples were available, neither looked injured or winded. There wasn't a need to run with a different back. Add Campbell's comment this week.

Campbell has shown at other positions that he's willing to play less experienced guys if he thinks they're capable and doing things the right way. He hasn't really shown that he values seniority and loyalty above everything else.

If QM gets the same number of snaps against Buffalo as Temple, I'm just going to assume he has made his decision on what he wants to be and Campbell has set the 3 deep based off of QM's choice.

And this proves its about Q not who is our best back. You're worried about RB4 leaving and didn't even mention RB3. You're saying Q should play even if he hasn't earned it so he doesn't transfer. People are going to be angry all year. He's not our best back. He's not our 2nd best. He's competiting for RB3. And on what team does RB4 get meaningful carries?

I think they’ve been trying to work with Martin from the very beginning. Before Campbell talked about many players, he talked about Martin at the beginning of his tenure that Martin has to put on good weight. Martin supposedly played at sub 200 lbs vs Clemson. He obviously had a great game, but at that height and weight, he wouldn’t last a conference schedule. To his credit he put on good weight. Like I said, yesterday in response to a question about Martin, Campbell gave a broad answer about the room but focused his answer around practice. Both Mouser and Campbell said they believe in Martin. The staff played Wallace over Martin against Temple, which I think is a message to Martin to get his act together. I also think they believe in him, but until he gets consistent in every facet, he’s not going to get the ball.

I think we are what we are. There are two weaknesses on this football team and they are not getting fixed: Pass rush and running game. Abdul Carter and Dani Dennis Sutton aren't walking through that door. Neither are Nick and the Fat man. At this point you play with the cards you are dealt.

The answers? Protect Rocco and let him cook on offense, and scheme up blitzes and pray Tony Rojas gets home on defense.

He needs to review more film if he doesn't believe Hansen has good vision. That's the reality.
Every single back that has ever lived missed lanes...and a lot of them. It's about consistency. Hansen has shown this over the past 2 years...everyone is overevaluating 30 carries...and honestly not even accurately evaluating it IMO
On the contrary, he has watched film on him while he was at ISU and said his vision then was good, however, currently while at PSU it has taken a step back. I agree though, its only been two games, his point, as well as mine, is pointing to areas that need improvement. Nothing bad about that. That's what you do in life. Point out the areas that you can sharpen or tighten up, and then move forward. That is an evaluation, which happens to be correct. Ask yourself, after every single game that is played, doesn't the media/former players evaluate individual position group/s or an individual on their performance by pointing out the good things and then the areas that need improvement? The answer is yes. We all evaluated the teams performance after each game so far have we not? Pointing out the things they did well and then pointing out the things they can improve on. That is exactly what we (former players/coaches) do after each game. The difference between us and guys like you, is that when we are in the film room watching the tape, we are looking for the small details as to why we got beat on a certain play. Tengwall does in fact do a good job at pointing those out because...wait for it...he was a former player. You are disagreeing because it is not YOUR evolution. You can disagree, we live in the greatest country on earth to do so, however, you are incorrect on this one.

I think you make good points, and I agree that the strength of the team is probably a lot different than what the staff had envisioned. It looks like we have a really good QB and the offense moves much better through the air. I think the run game can be salvaged to become serviceable, but there’s no Kaytron, Journey Brown or Miles Sanders in that room . On defense Lynn is going to have a large task ahead of him. Temple put out good tape to our future opponents on how to break the defense with QB runs. Luckily, we have two injured DTs coming back into the rotation to help. He’s also going to have to figure out how you scheme blitzes without Granville. I think we’re gonna win games by scores that were not accustomed to seeing at PSU. Luckily, it looks like our schedule is even more dog crap than we thought!

You guys are arguing over the lesser of evils. So far, I have not seen the RB on the roster who is a true Numero Uno. Could one progress and be that guy? maybe. But I have yet to see the difference maker most are looking for this year.

The thing about RB's is that most need carries to progress and really get it going and take over a game, which is why to a degree I hate the revolving door concept for that position group. Not that other guys don't need to rotate in for a series or so to give them some game experience with the ones and not just in garbage time. Also, the #1 guy needs a blow now and then.

Hansan, I suspect is the #1 guy because he's the most complete and mistake free guy the staff trusts not to lose the game for them and I have to think the staff believes they can win with him because of Rocco being the QB. It's also probably the case that all the other guys have certain issues the staff is not comfortable with at this point in the season.

So most likely what we see is what we are going to get to one degree or another.

IMO don't be shocked if this team doesn't have quite a few close hard fought wins this year.

I think there is some truth to what you say regarding Fans rooting for Martin. And reading between the lines, it appears that Martin is not practicing up to par for what ever reason. If that’s the case, he won’t see the field under Campbell.

With that said, I have been underwhelmed with both Hansen and People’s. While they apparently do the intangibles well, they have not shown much explosiveness. Granted we only have a limited sample size, but Martin and Wallace both have shown the ability to make a safety miss and get to the second level. If Martin is not practicing hard, that’s on him. Perhaps Terry Smith needs to have a heart to heart talk with him.

Asking for Martin to get a few more carries every game has nothing to do with where he played last year. Why is nobody asking for Rulli to start at center over Riker? It’s because Riker looks like an absolute stud so far. I guarantee that if Hansen was playing as well as Riker then QM’s name would barely be mentioned.

So Hansen can break off a 65 yard run vs BYU but can't do that here? Why is that?

We aren't seeing any from any of the backs because teams are committed to limiting our run game and to make Rocco beat us. I know Lengwall is apparently a legend around here but his analysis is subjective and flawed.

We all want to see big plays. We also need to ensure we're not sacrificing the other 95% of our run game for the couple big plays a game we want. The small things win games. The long runs will come. From Hansen Peoples and others if they earn playing time

And your analysis is objective and perfect... lmfao...... Classic Loado.

I agree about the coaches wanting to keep RB protected, but they will need a run game in conference play. They need some drive that are 5+ minutes to rest the D since they dont have the disruptive DE to make plays. Plus you need to be able to grind out the last 5 minutes of a game where the defense plays a base D with multiple LB and we can use the run game or PA to the TE where I think our TE have a huge advantage over the LB/S on the other teams
