Do we get the OR this week at the QB spot?

I think it stays OR
Given it's UNI, the Hawks will win bigly. So you'll see numerous 2nd and 3rd teamers play. QB likely included. Although even though the Tan Man hates to make a decision publically, he's tipped his hat on QB1 with the ISU game. There's no more competition if Heck doesn't even play.

I'm assuming Brown is the QB moving forward given the ISU game. Personally, I'd still like to see Heck get a shot, but not likely.
Brown did nothing in my eyes to cement himself as the starter. Missed a bunch of throws & doesn't go through his progressions!

He was very very lucky that a tipped ball prevented a pick 6! dude ***** his pants under pressure a la Petras

He does move much better than the statue that was Petras, agreed on the progressions though.

KF has had his mind made up for a long time. It was always gonna be Brown, the game manager, over Hecklinski, the gunslinger and runner. The "competition" thing was just to placate the fans and media after Brown got totally exposed in the open practice. After more than a quarter of a century of misjudging offensive talent, QBs in particular, everyone should have seen this coming.

It'll stay "or", Kirk said it'll still be a game by game decision in the post-game press conference.
KF says a lot of things. You are a fool to believe most of them. Hecklinski won't take another snap @ Iowa except in garbage time or unless Brown suffers a major injury. Then, after the season if not before, Hecklinski will transfer.

Not to mention he fumbled the snap on the 4th and 1 QB sneak where he gained an inch. And he also fumbled on a run up the middle, actually "dribbling" the ball and managing to recover it. He was lucky as hell not to have two crucial TOs.

Our line was not blocking well for the sneaks. Need a QB that can leap over

Definitely needs to improve on going through his progressions. That’s my biggest complaint, but that can be coached up to an extent. I need to get QB one the best possible games 4-6. They just need to pick Hank and be done with it. Clearly, Helinski didn’t do enough to separate himself and at this point you have run out of time and you aren’t learning anything valuable about either quarterback in the UNI game

He is really bad about staring down his receivers. Locks on to the primary badly.

they are going to play both in a reverse wishbone formation. UNI will have no idea who the center will shotgun to.

I just hope Heck gets more shots as the QB… we might really need his scrambling ability especially with Michigan’s tough defense. Maybe use him in packages during the game for short yardage situations? Idk.. he offers a dimension that Hank doesn’t have.

Brown checked down to the short receiver multiple times after looking at another receiver. He through a great ball to the sideline that RVZ or DJV caught but didnt tuck away fast enough to keep from getting it knocked out of his hands. There was also a very good 35 or so back shoulder throw to Diaz who was blatantly grabbed and held on his shoulder pad. And one other drop.

Those 3 possible catches were on target and you have added about 50 yards to his stats and his stats at 24 out of 30 completions. No Brown is not great but he played very well.

But Heck needs reps in practice and in this game because Brown took on some hard tackles,

Kirk is gonna ride Brown the whole way in Ann Arbor barring injury.

I am assuming the Hawks will be up enough that Heck plays at least the entire 4th quarter.

I want Hank to get as many reps as possible to iron out the kinks before Michigan, but also would like Heck to get a decent amount of time to use as you suggested, or in case Hank gets hurt or proves ineffective.

I would be about as shocked as I've ever been if Hecklinski gets any significant playing time during a competitive game going forward barring Brown being injured to the point that he can't take the field or throwing something like 3 straight interceptions in a game (maybe 4).

Brown may not be lighting it up at QB, but right now he has a sh*t ton of experience on the field compared to Heck (4 career starts, including a game-winning drive against a P4 team, compared to Heck's 18 career pass attempts and never being in a competitive situation). With Brown reportedly being the better practice time QB, I see no way that Heck ever takes the reigns based on merit.

But, like I've posted before, Iowa has needed its backup QB for significant playing time in each of the past 4 seasons due to injury (Padilla '22, Deacon '23, BSully/Stratton '24, Brown '25 (4Q against IN), with varied results. Heck needs to stay ready....

I would like to see Heck become a "situational" QB since KF has made it clear he's found his Vandenberg.

("Are you talking about the last QB to throw for 3,000+ yds?" No, I'm talking about the guy who never won more than 7 games in a season)

Brown will start, no doubt, but Hecklinski should get the call after the 3rd or 4th offensive series in order to QB the 1st team offense. Brown has not impressed IMO.

IF Hecklinski is truly deserving of the “or” designation then play him early against UNI. It is one of KF’s glaring weaknesses which I hope does not doom Iowa against conference opponents - sticking with the starting QB far too long (typically til the bitter end) when it is painfully obvious that the starter is playing poorly.

Not really gonna matter. It is clear that going to Michigan that Hank will be the starter there

@DukeSlater knows. He's seen this movie multiple times. Me too! 😆
Yep. Hecklinski is gone. There is no Hecklinski.

At least they kinda suspected this outcome and Sullivan has had some practice snaps. He'll be the backup QB after Hecklinski leaves (assuming no Brown injury in the next game or 2).

I'm just glad this QB thing has been handled so deftly.

Maybe? I wouldn't assume it's Sullivan. Bessinger might be taking over that role next year.
