They need to beat a team that they're not supposed to beat. Hasn't happened yet
Fair point, I’m not sure who that will come against though now. We could very well be favored in every game outside of Oregon, Indiana, OSU, and Iowa. I have little faith in beating those teams other than Iowa.

Win at Illinois or at home vs Washington.
Both of those teams are looking pretty bad. Being competitive against Indiana, OSU, and Oregon while beating everybody else is a 9-3 record. That would be a top 25 ranking and would match our player payroll and coach salaries. Our record should always match our compensation levels or heads need to roll. This is year four, low expectations shouldn't wash away the reality that Rhule has had plenty of time to build culture and a good roster and should be beating the top 2/3 of the conference considering the investment and compensation. He shouldn't get a free pass for making bad hires for 60% of his original staff and not being able to retain the few good coaches he did hire.

I feel like the fans and Dannen treat Rhule like he is a new coach who is learning on the job...great...pay him 1 million with a heavy incentive package then...give the other 95 million back to fans in the form of cheaper tickets, merch, and food at the games.

I agree with most of this. I still think beating Illinois especially on the road would be impressive as Bert has had our number at both Wisconsin and Illinois. I do expect NU to beat Washington as they are decimated by injuries which in turn has made their offense anemic.

7 win and not get blown out, 8 would be nice
Win 8 and not get blown out. After the collapse last year you can't look at this years start and think progress has been made until you win against Conference teams like Washington and , Illinois. Wins against MSU, Rutgers and Maryland does not show anyone that we have improved , just that you haven't gone backwards. Real progress is at least one win against either Oregon , Indiana, OSU or Iowa.

In order for you to believe they’ve improved?

For me it would be going on the road for our first conference game and winning by 3TDs plus against MSU.

Improved? I think we can all cherry pick a game or score or record or moment that would make us feel like we're improved. I mean, I'm probably already convinced we're at least slightly improved. At least I would damn sure hope so after 4 years and the outlay of resources we keep giving this thing. Improved enough is the real question.

Winning all the games they are supposed to win, and not getting totally obliterated by Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State and Iowa.
