Yes and no. I don’t believe we have had such a quantity of talent at that position before. But there also doesn’t seem to be a true alpha amongst that squad, at least not yet.

gilmer is looking the part so far and can’t wait to see the connection vs better competition.
Maybe we could wait until we actually play some good defenses before making a ‘best ever’ statement?
I’m thinking 1 through 5 or 6 it is. I can’t remember having this many guys with this kind of speed and hands. Fryar was a great one. We’ve had A guy every now and then but I think we have 5-6 guys who can potentially play at a high level. 3-4 very good guys.
No. Just watching the speed and hands. Gilmore seems to hopefully be over the drop he had against Ohio.Based on what they did to a MAC team and team that lost to Tarleton St???
Maurice Purify, Terrance Nunn, Frantz Hardy, Nate Swift & Todd Peterson group was pretty good.
Also;
- Quincy Enunwa, Kenny Bell, & Jamal Turner
- Jordan Westercamp, Brandon Reilly, Alonzo Moore & Stanley Morgan Jr.
- Stanley Morgan Jr, JD Spielman & Demornay Pierson-El
That's about it. I feel Niles Paul & Brandon Kinnie should be in there somewhere too, but I'm not sure there was much supporting cast while at their peak.
Also;

BG corners were BADDDDDD. They ended up just playing off 10 yards to not get burned. BG was a very bad team...hope the players aren't smoking the hopium like some fans.

Not even close. Johnny the Jet although a wingback operated much like a receiver. In the 80s, Irving Fryar was not just a 1st round pick, he went 1st overall in the draft. The receiver group in the 1997 season saved our bacon against Mizzou. Don't know why TOs receiver groups always get discounted, but they were a lot better than they currently get credit for. The world existed before 2000.
None of those pre-2000 receiver groups were better than what we have now as far as pure receiving ability. However they were great at blocking. Johnny and Irving were great individual receivers, but the question was regarding the whole WR room.
Some of the post 2000 groups (mentioned above) were as good or better.
2006 and 2007 we had Mo Purify, Nate Swift, Todd Peterson, Terrence Nunn, and Frantz Hardy. Also had Marlon Lucky at RB. This is a top 5 pass catching group in Nebraska Football history.
How was Colandrea 20-24 then? I remember a couple throw aways too. Can’t be that many drops.
I'd say 2013 with Bell, Enunwa and young Jamal Turner and Westerkamp was our best top to bottom
But how do you not say 1983 with Fryar being the #1 draft pick in the NFL in 84?

I think its because he asked for the best WR room. Not the class with the best 1 WR overall.
It's before my time, but I couldn't name another WR on the '83 team and no one else has mentioned them either.
I don't disagree. I'm taking 2006, 2007 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 over this year's group.
I do think this group looks more like what I would imagine a Holgerson wr room looks like.
Its pretty much an apples to oranges to compare WR rooms pre/post Osborne/Solich. Typically the most talented "WRs" in TO's offenses were wingbacks which were more of a hybrid position. Some of the best ones - Fryer, JR, Brinson, etc had 200-300 yards rushing per season
I just rewatched the 78 Huskers vs OU game 1. I was amazed at how well Sorely threw and how many well thrown passes to open receivers were dropped. Felt bad for Sorely. Some great calls by Osborne and some cool nuances in OUs running game. Yes we’ve had some good guys but I need to go back and see good/ bad they really were.
Maybe so- Westercamp had unreal hands, Enumwa was so physical, bell could get open and Turner was an able athlete.
If we’re talking best wide receiver ever, I would put Trey Palmer near the top.
I guess define "play at a high level". Would that be all B1G? Drafted? Making numerous big plays most every Saturday. That word "potentially" goes along with "measurables" that people whip out as if they mean something in action. To be fair, don't all these kids have
otential" or they wouldn't be here?Latest
