That’s my rationale. End of story

I’m well employed and don’t have to justify myself to the likes of you.
Cool story. You’re the one on here that advertises how smart and talented you are. You are also the one that dug this hole stating you know all the peoples true value. Because you have some random skill built over 20 years of estimating. Whatever that means.
So what would be a market rate for the UMass qb by your logic. 250k-300k. Coming from my field of expertise that would be an even bigger indicator of outlier and would be flagged as erroneous. Especially with knowing UMass spent in the range of 2-3M on their entire 105 man roster. I can’t imagine a world where 10% of allocation is spent on one unproven player.

Illinois and Iowa are understated. They have more season tickets, fan support and more revenue. There’s no way they have similar NIL support to us.
But you just said this is the best information out there.

Everyone but DeadbeatAl claims the opposite of what he does. Rutgers has between $25MMa and $30MM. That's the best information available.

I've never seen someone spin out of control so badly on this board. Every post this loser makes is a contradiction of a previous one at this point. Dude should just leave the board forever. He's shot.

Oh ok, guess it’s even more embarrasing. What happened to Greg. Couldn’t adapt to NIL era? Whatever it is time to cut your losses.
Guy should've pulled a Saban or Jay Wright at Nova and retired once NIL became the standard for roster construction. Both were savvy enough to get out of there before they were exposed.

He screwed up the roster construction but budget made his job more difficult.

Budget, unfortunately, will always make the job more difficult for every Rutgers Head Coach.

We need a coach who won't screw up roster construction.
We need a coach goes the other way and can actually help mitigate the budget through superior roster construction/talent evaluation.

You mention UMass/BC QBs over Rutgers QB.
That's not a money issue.
That's a roster construction issue.
And both UMass/BC head coaches out constructed Schiano.

This is what you refuse to acknowledge.
Everything is "just more money. Only more money".

There will never be enough money.
The only improvements come from maximizing the meager money Rutgers has.

Schiano took BCU's QB off their hands and paid to do so, allowing them to get a better QB lol

The more time he has to spend on football, the worse football gets.

It's not NIL but poor coaching. Was happy with Schiano in the beginning - fine with the hire then. Thought he got us back to not being a laughing stock. That said, I just feel as if the game has passed him by and his loyalty to Kirk has been a mistake.

You have a young QB making their first start on the road, in what is a must win game. On 4th and goal, being down only 6 pts with your D starting to play well and with plenty of time left to play. Do you say let's kick the FG, get some points on the board and give our young QB some confidence for leading us to points. Or do you go yet again for it on 4th down even though you have struggled on 4th down plays. It's a no brainer, but him and Kirk seem to have no feel for the game. Just taking unnecessary risks as if you decided to take those risks well before the game even started.

Every time you saw AJ on the sideline he had this depressed look because his HC and OC kept putting him in tough positions.

As a fan, not asking for championships, or even top bowl games. Just want to be able to enjoy the games, not leaving or turning off the game by the 3rd qtr, like Ash, and a chance for a bowl game at the end of the season (destination doesn't matter).

Here is an eye-opener from The Athletic (link below). While some are blaming the losses this season on NIL or lack thereof, we lost two two teams who are paying about half or less than RU is. UMass is about $2 million, BS is $8--$13 million. I guess that isn't really the answer, is it?

Pretty much what every one on here has been saying. No real differential in spending on the middle 7-8 teams.
  1. UCLA – $26-30M
  2. Maryland – $22-25M
  3. Michigan State – $21-25M
  4. Northwestern – $21-25M
  5. Washington – $21-25M
  6. Rutgers – $20-23M
  7. Illinois – $19-23M
  8. Minnesota – $18-22M
Every damn one of those team above beat UMass by 35

What’s fascinating about that graphic is what happens when teams that spend $10-$15 million win championships and the Texas A&M/Texas/Ohio State/Miamis of the world spend 35 to 50M and don’t! Even those fan bases will get fed up

Maximizing Rutgers meager money isn’t the way to win in the Big Ten.

If you want to win, in the Big Ten, you have to have the resources to win, because everyone program has money. Otherwise you just have to accept losing. Thats what we’re doing this year, reluctantly, because we didn’t replace the players we lost because we didn’t have budget. We have to have a competitive NIL budget. 14 out of 18 teams isn’t going to get it done. Do you really think a Brian Kelly is going to settle for a program with the 14th highest NIL budget?

There’s no such thing as winning on the cheap in the Big Ten. How exactly do you expect to compete with a MSU team that just received 400M in NIL? How do you expect to compete with Northwestern who just built over $1B in facilities. We have almost no chance to beat teams with a $20M talent advantage. The chart tells the story. If you’re in the bottom half of NIL, you are likely to finish in the bottom half of the Big Ten standings, unless you’re Iowa and Illinois whose numbers I suspect are understated.

you’re right there is a roster construction issue, but There would be nothing wrong with our roster construction if we had a quarterback who didn’t keep throwing the ball to the other team. Had we spent $2M on Beau Pribula, we’d be 2-0.

It’s 100% talent. None of our linemen or QB would play for another Big Ten team. Both AJ and Dylan need to develop. Both had a lot of unforced errors. And I love AJ.

so… SIX of Rutgers opponents this year have similar or less funds to spend on their football team. No excuse for GS to say NIL is the reason they are underperforming.

At the end of the day, a good coach is paid to elevate the talent he has and overachieve. That has yet to happen the past 2 seasons.
It’s not just NIl. But NIL has put the final nails in the casket. There’s so many reasons why Rutgers has one hand tied behind its back. Lack of big fan base is only one of them.

Add Iowa and Purdue as well and you‘re pretty much in the vicinity of over half the conference. Iowa getting good bang for its buck.

Iowa 17-21M
Purdue 16-20M

This goes from the pros on down: You have to have a dude at that spot,” Harasymiak said, per Amin Touri of the Boston Globe. “The best thing about recruiting is when both parties align on what they want. . . . We needed a quarterback. Bad. Our quarterback play was atrocious last year. No leadership. It was a revolving door. Gave everybody an opportunity. Didn’t happen.

“We know we need to fix that. We feel like we’ve done that.”

this doesn’t sound like they spent very little, especially when UMass badly needed a QB. A quarterback who can actually play is priceless. A quarterback who can’t play is expensive.

based on these comments, I think Coach H paid up. these estimates are only as good as the models, their parameters, and the people that created them. He wasn’t completely unproven. He had a win against Virginia and played well against Minnesota in the Dukes Mayo Bowl.

The six you are referring to have invested significantly in facilities. Maryland for instance has a 5 star quarterback and a 5 star football facility, though similar NIL. This puts us at a huge disadvantage in recruiting.

you can’t make chicken salad from chickenshit. You need the right ingredients and you need resources.

If he was a sought after commodity he would have landed on a more desirable roster. Instead of the worst performing team in college football. You say RU is in the place we are financially because we have to pay staff and players more. We have to have a bloated staff to overcome recruiting battles. Yet UMass can turn over their roster with less of a “value prop” (your words) and attract a “sought after qb”(again your words” and we can’t. UMass did all of this with less resources a tenth of our Nil budget and a staff 1/4 the size. Your theory and “estimations” don’t add up.

no one is choosing UMass with better options on the table. And UMass is not in the position of paying a premium.

I think it also gives us an idea how much NIL is needed. Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana are the 3 champs in the NIL era. Michigan and Indiana are in the high $30's. Georgia won the last two before the NIL era, is still competing for a championship and is in the low $30's. The "recently championship teams" of Clemson and Florida State are high $20's and low $30's. It is reasonable to believe that RU will need to increase their NIL allocations by about 50% to field a team with some Title expectations. All the teams paying $40+ are teams who entered this season on the short list of title contenders (Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, Miami, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas Tech). While I disagree that NIL is the primary reason for what we've seen this year, RU does need to increase and potentially double the allocation to have a legitimate chance to win it all.

90% of those “catches” were more like pitches. They were extended handoffs behind the line of scrimmage. When Kenny was lined up in the backfield as an h-back versus tight end.
They were productive. It’s a miracle that Kirk used the TE as much as he did LY. 9 yards a pop isn’t too shabby.
