I like Clark Lea from Vanderbilt. He is tough, enthusiastic (but not in a clapper kind of way) and his teams are physical and disciplined. He took Vandy past us and turned them into a winning program in a very short time.

I’m not sure when Beamer will get the hook, probably at the end of the season, but when he does we need to be ready to hire someone with proven HBC experience.

Could we pay him more than Vanderbilt does and/or would he think he has a better chance of winning here than there? For most of my life, I think we could confidently answer "yes" to both questions, but this new era of college football has my confidence wavering.

At any rate, I'd definitely want to see how he does in the post Pavia era. In his first 3 years at vandy, he went 9-27, including 2-10 in his third season. Had he done that here, I'm not sure we'd have had the patience to give him a 4th season.

It doesnt matter who the coach is. We are who we are. Embrace that and milk the cash from the sec. Vandy has done it for years.

The sad fact is, no really good coach in the prime of their career or who is a well known up and coming name is going to have very much interest in the job at South Carolina. SC is known as a career graveyard for football coaches.

Donati is going to have to find a dark horse G6 coach who will take the job as a stepping stone.

Or, it's going to have to be another retread pulled out of retirement.

He's a Vandy grad and has them in a better place than we are. He's not leaving them for us.

That's what I've always said. None of those schools have anything that we don't have. For years and years I've heard that it's all due to political meddling by the legislature and the decisions made by USC's inept BOT. There's no other valid explanation. None.

They put up a hell of a fight against us last year, but I don't see him making the transition to the SEC. Let him go somewhere like James Madison, Rutgers or Cincinnati first.

None of those programs has the ugly history SC has for head coaches. We will have to see how good MSU and Vandy really are. Vandy was one bonehead QB play away from losing to a horrible NC State team at home. MSU still hasn't beaten a truly good team this season.

UK may or may not be good. aTm is always grossly overrated going into every season, they may not be the big win they appear to be for UK.

Ole Miss has a generational QB and a relatively good football history.

Finally, which of the coaches at those schools was a proven winning head coach before he took the job at those schools? All were coordinators.

They all had more experience than Beamer. He's done.

Okay, then hire a coordinaotr.

Lost in all the discussion about what kind of HC would consider us, or if we should go the coordinator route is the idea to look in both pools.

Small school head coach, big school coordinator? Who cares. You know what they both have in common? Theyre not recently fired losers (Muschamp) or nepo baby position coaches.

Saban retired because of NIL and the portal. Do you think he has any interest at all in coming to a perennially mediocre program and build it with NIL and the portal? If he had any interest in coaching, he could step back in at Bama any day he wanted to.

Strong tried the head coach thing once and was not good. Hiring Strong, who probably has no interest, would be the same thing as hiring Muschamp.

Dabo has generational wealth now. On top of that, I don't think he cares for South Carolina much. He isn't coming, no matter how much we offer.

We should have hired Bob Chesney last year. The Dukes have had a succession of successful coaches. (I wouldn't hire their current coach though.)
