SW Edgecombe 3-1 @ Northeastern 4-1

SWE makes the unscheduled trip all the way to Elizabeth City this week to take on the Northeastern Eagles. I say unscheduled because this game was just announced late last week. Northeastern had an unexpected open home date this week due to their conference mate First Flight cancelling their season abruptly. Even though we had the same home date open all year due to Wilson Prep dropping us before the season started, we are somehow making the +100 mile trip to them, instead of them coming to us. They've agreed to split the gate with us, but I doubt it'll be a full house. I'll be honest...I really dislike the Eagles lol. I also have to be honest and say that they have totally destroyed us the last several meetings. We were destroying them before that, but we live in a "what have you done for me lately" world, and lately, it's been all Northeastern.
It looks like they can be scored on this season, and SWE doesn't have a problem scoring when we're not playing Tarboro. But I don't see any indication that NE can't do a lot of scoring either. It'd be great to go up there and win a shootout. Both teams have a blowout victory over really bad teams, and both teams have shown the ability to win close ones. I hope we can get back on the winning side vs the Eagle, because good grief, I hate them lol.
Anybody know where Goob is?

He was on Facebook crying about his Eagles rankings before the season started. He was saying that this Northeastern team was one of their best teams ever, but that was before the season started.

I don't know if you saw my post in the North Lenoir game thread, but Sandra Langley told me during the weather delay that NE will come to SW next year, and then will be added on a two year contract to replace Hertford County after that, so it appears as though we will be playing them for the next 4 years. I also asked her about WRH and she replied about the Duplin County home cooked refs and said that, that wasn't gonna happen after what the refs did last time we played there and said something about them being "really good". I told her " you realize NE is Alot better right?" And she replied that Coach Ward wanted to play NE. It sure helps the Eagles, if what Good used to say about them having problems getting teams to play them.

@swe98 When you get there go up the press box and step inside the door and say hi to the announcer. His name is Ervin and he is a great guy. Tell him I said Hi. He is one of the most entertaining guys you will ever hear at a high school football game. Some visitors hate it and act all crazy over his ribbing and sounds he will do during the game but he adds a lot of color to it. I enjoy it. When we play there I just tell our guys to tune it out and play. His beep beep is awesome. I hope he is still doing it. Coach Moore is a good guy too. If you get the chance to speak to him do it. I wish this game was on our bye week I would go.

May try to watch this one since the Vikings are on a bye this week. Not sure what to make of the eagles this year. With what they had returning I viewed them as the heavy favorite in the 3a East. But haven't really seen that so far. I view the 3a East as wide open personally. As for this game, If SWE can keep penalties to a minimum and make plays with mayo running and throwing then the cougars may pull the upset. Should be a good one

Yeah, I don't know how much the refs actually helped WRH in a 43-0 blowout. And when we went there a few years before that, we lost 71-36. Listen, it's a historic lil stadium, and it's not kind to SWE, plain and simple. I don't think the refs have anything to do with it. And why even worry about playing there, when we're the one missing a home game? And yeah, they're always tough, but it's Northeastern that has a couple of trips to the state championship game in the last several years under their belt. I'm just confused by the choice, but oh well. At least we won't be sitting on a bye for the second time in 4 weeks. Whoever wins will have a nice boost in their RPI.

I've spoken to Moore during the 2019 season. We were 12-1 headed into the 3rd round, and he drilled into his team that we haven't played anybody other than Tarboro, and we lost to them. We had a few jabs back and forth, and then they came to Pinetops and beat us by 2 touchdowns.
Was Ervin there during 2014? That's the last time we played at Northeastern.

Last two games, we have been shooting ourselves in the foot with unforced penalties. We cannot give a team like Northeastern free first downs by being offsides on 3rd and short, and we can't make our own 1st and 10 become 1st and 20 due to holding. It's been a long time since I've seen us lay down penalty after penalty the way we're doing right now. It's going to be the reason we get beaten by a team not better than us. I just know it.

Hot take but I believe if your QB wasn't injured y'all probably win that game in 19. That SWE team was very good

Can’t really score compare but if NE only beat Wilson prep by 3 - then I would tend to think the cougars should win this one.

SWE team in 19 probably should've beat that Northeastern team, but that's why you play the game. With that said, I still think this years SWE team can get a win on the road, but they've gotta clean up some things.

Also, Northeastern ended up making the title game in 10, and you guys beat them 40-14 to start the season. I still dk how you all let beddingfield beat you all that year?
