I thought the first call was correct. We would have beaten UCLA with that AR who apparently made the call. Agree the 2d call should have been a PK.

Oh I have PTSD from the ucla non call. I thought the keeper was falling before any contact
UNC- linked players on teh U-17 World Cup roster:

Every time we bring this up about the Non-call against UCLA that cost us from winning the national championship the more I get mad thinking about it. I am sure ND's players and coaches are feeling the same way. They got snubbed and Duke was able to tie the game. That should have been a win for then and a lost for Duke. We all know that fact to be true.
Free sporting events are about to be a relic of the past considering how much money athletic departments are losing now that they have to pay players. No way around it.
Two issues that will affect how and when sports go to a paid ticket structure:
- there is some number of gate revenue required where it costs more to issue tickets and man the gates than it does to simply let people in for free. if the equation is close, most programs will err towards free tickets for simplicity and hopeful increase to attendance.
- Many facilities are not yet set up to fence out unpaid customers and have a ticket office. UNC Field Hockey is an example. They would need to pay to create fencing and a main gate/ticket office.
You wonder how much concession revenue you lose by charging instead of free. UNC volleyball would be a good test case with that. Changed from free to 10-15 last year.

Alvarez playing CB in place of Stratton. This is the back line that MSU took advantage of, and Virginia has already gotten behind them….not crazy about it. I still think if this is how it’s going to be, then Gaetino should be at CB and Alvarez at outside back.
Need to find out more about the Stratton injury…..that is a big loss for us…we also miss her on offensive corner kicks immensely, we have no one else threatening in the air at all.

One of Gaetino’s infamous long balls actually works out….Devey just outran the slow back for Virginia and was all alone against the GK. Easy one there.

Game has settled in now…kind of at a stalemate as we’ve mostly just been content managing possession and not pushing forward aggressively. Gotta be careful not to get complacent, Virginia is good enough to pull a goal or two back if we lose our edge. I want to see a mentality to put them away and give them no hope.

Not a great start to second half. UVA has had more possession and created several chances. They came out with more energy after the break. We need to wake up or we risk letting them back into this.
Virginia goal on a PK. 3-1. We have lost all of the momentum at this point. Damon needs to make some changes to reverse the course of the game.
Note that Denigan was subbed out for Straun. Wonder if Damon is limiting her minutes after coming back from injury or what.

Virginia subbing a lot more than we are…that may explain why we have faded and they have surged as the game has gone on. This has been a poor half for us, there is no other way to say it.
Also don’t understand why Damon won’t give a few more players some time, they earned it when we needed them, and it looks like some of our starters could use a rest.

Straight up bloodbath going on behind the goal. Pretty sure I saw a 4yo get gutted. RIP.
