Wtf, Captain Clueless?

I don’t know what the…😂

Even if you make the 51 yard field goal, you have ostensibly accomplished nothing. You still have to stop Michigan and get the ball back and score again. All in under 3 minutes.

I don’t get it.

So let’s get this straight in terms of higher percentages:

1. 4th and 6 inside plus territory and 2:52 to score a game winning TD

or

2. Attempt a 51-yard field goal with a first-year kicker and still be behind on the scoreboard even if he makes it. Give Michigan the ball and have to stop them without allowing a first down. Get the ball back and have to score again.

I don’t get it. But if Kirk’s plan all along was to do something so stupid like attempt a 51 yard field goal with under 3 minutes, knowing Michigan would go full potatoes on conservative play calling and idiotic penalties, just so Iowa could score a dramatic walk-off TD, then….well, who am I to judge? 🤷‍♂️

LMAO. Unbelievable.

I am going to enjoy the win, though. 😂

It’s sort of like “The Catch.” Absolutely terrible coaching led to one of the biggest plays in school history. There is no way the odds of stopping Michigan cold, then driving back for another field goal were better than just picking up the fourth down then scoring a TD. Not a moronic decision, but not a smart one.

But credit them for pulling off the miracle.

Michigan stupidity, great hands by his TE and a serious case of luck saved KFs bacon on this one. And its not very arguable.

If not for the late shove OOB by the UM DB that drew the PF flag & a free 15 yards as well as the new set of downs AND DJV's self-directed deflection & catch to set up the ball at that spot it was for the winning TD throw PLUS the play stoppage due to the UM injury ... Iowa is nowhere close to getting that chance to win it, let alone actually doing it.


GREAT WIN, but let's not put KF on a pedestal he absolutely does not deserve to be on after it. Going for that FG when he did, even after the procedural penalty, was turtling and begging to lose.

No sensible person thinks kicking a 51-yard field goal in that scenario is a higher percentage path to a win than picking up 4th and 6. Now, do I think it would have been more likely that Iowa converted a 51-yard field goal than picked up 4th and 6? Well, assuming Michigan didn’t commit a penalty, lol, of course the field goal is more likely. But, lol, that misses the point entirely.

And, as artradley pointed out, it allowed for another one of those “The Catch” wins we get to laugh about for decades to come. I mean, who could forget Dolph panicking on the radio right as Drew Tate heaved a perfect strike to Warren Holloway for a walk-off miracle? And twenty years later we get to file away the image of RVZ laying out perfectly to haul in a game-winner at the Big House that would have been good on Sunday! I mean, this is vintage bumbling Captain Clueless stuff that allows for these serendipitous moments! 😂

I think you're wrong. Michigan has a helluva defense, and that QB--when he's throwing like he was today--makes a pretty powerful offense. Very few people walk out of the Big House with a win as a visiting team. And how about a 91-yard drive capped off by a 16-yard TD pass on the last play of the game, perfectly executed, all in under 2 minutes. This is at least a top 20 all-time win, if not a top 10.

Well, it sort of is when we haven’t done that in years! Either way, I think it’s just great that we beat Michigan. Think of how pissed off we all would be if we had lost, especially after that decision not got for it on the 4th down. Omg, I know I’d be foaming at the mouth. 😂😂
