It’s worth watching it, as tortuous as the game unfolded . I came away feeling a lot better about the OL and Rapp and even worse about Becht and both coordinators. Literally everything that could have gone wrong did. I am so down on Becht I would not be opposed to Manske starting.

Yes. Mentioned full extension of UW TE’s arms. He’s unbiased, but said it should have been called.
While not as egregious or impactful, LT also pointed out an illegal procedure that should’ve been called against us on our final drive. It would’ve been very impactful if that had been a TD play. The missed call against UW was egregious, but we should never have been in that position to lose the game. We had many opportunities to put them away before that. I’m always down for a good Conference referee bashing session, but we just did everything we could to piss that game away.

We are going to find out this year how much growth takes place between the two coordinators. The question is can they adjust and do they have the talent to make it look like they have.

The thing to keep in mind is they don't make the receiving mistakes dropped balls/missed what should have been catches and they aren't out there making penalties or missing assignments or slowing up on deep routes etc. Just some of the mistakes I saw during that game.

Just one thing alone, had they made some catches they should have made the outcome would have been far better.

We are still lacking talent in areas we have been talking about since spring.

You will know Saturday nigh what has been tweaked and perhaps what can't be tweaked given the obvious lack of talent in some key areas.

LT is bias has he has stated. However, he does call balls and strikes for the most part on the obvious. I think we could all spend the entire season pointing out the issues in this single game alone. Lets move on. NW is a good football team and that would be a great team to right the ship against. On a Friday, on the road against a team that is looking to open up their new stadium with a win over a team like PSU. I will say it again, NW is a good team. I still think we are better, however, that confidence has substantially shrunk Saturday. Barring no bad injury news this week, I believe the good guys win 27-21. I believe Becht gets up from the dust and rubble, brushes himself off and plays lights out.

Lynn is going to have to figure out an alternative to replace Granville. There is no speed rusher on the edge right now. Kemajou makes some really nice plays at times and then disappears. Bacon has made some nice place throughout the year, but like LT stated in the video, he got burned on that screen pass probably because he just doesn’t have the experience to know that if the tackle is tossing you toward the freaking quarterback, there’s a reason for that. Quite frankly, we did not have a speed rusher last year either. There has to be a balance between what Franklin had in terms of the extreme speed rushers on the edge, but small tackles in the middle who got gashed by Michigan and OSU every year. Now we have all the size in the world across the line, but they’re all slow. Maybe after Arrington’s son recovers from injury he can be that speedy edge later this year? Who knows.

Curt Cignetti (IU HC) said before and after their game against NW, that he knew/knows NW is a good football team. This is no gimme "W". A "Wisconsonesque" effort will see PSU getting blown out in Evanston.

Also Dayshaun Burnett, who is injured, was making progress as a speed rusher. Not sure when he returns. It would behoove the staff to have Ezigou (sp?), and Jackson Ford, DEs, loose a bit of weight to play with more burst. They are both 265 - 275 lbs. 250-255 lbs is plenty of weight for a college DE.

I agree, I think Penn State is the better team. I attended the game Friday night in Bloomington. Indiana was a much better team then North Western. Hoover was off on throws and missed some passes that would have added 14+ points on the board. Chip Kelly made some great adjustments at halftime and Chiles had a near perfect game. Indiana put their defense on the field way to much and Chiles has the mobility to escape pressure and hurt you with his legs if he has to run.

NW defense is where the problem lies for them. Interior line and linebackers are definitley their stronger point from what I saw. Their secondary is where they are weak, especially on the corners. Beebee from IU had over 200 yards rushing, the key on a vast majority of those long runs he had were due to excellent blocking on the edge and downfield by the wide receivers. From what I saw, Penn State has to get up early and match the adjustments that are going to come at halftime. Running the ball ,as always, will be key but I'm going to guess without Howard playing , North Western will sell out to stop the run and force Becht to beat them through the air with out his main receiver. Fortunately for Indiana , Northwestern was not able to stop the run and had to respect both Marsh and Becker who killed them on the perimeter. If North Western is the team I saw Friday night and if Chiles plays like he has been, they are going to be a tough out for anyone.

100% agree. If PSU plays like they did on Saturday, the score will be somewhere around 31-13 with our defense (again) holding them within striking distance but give up something in the end to put it completely out of range.

I do not disagree with anything you said. The questions I have for myself about PSU are, Can our Oline create running lanes against this NW defense? Can our Oline give Becht time to throw? Can our Defense create enough of a pass rush (at this point, I say no)?
What we really need to see is for Becht to throw the ball ALOT better (more accurate when guys are wide open) and to not take stupid sacks. Dump the ball off to a check down al let your play makers make a play. The coaches also need to spend timeouts better. Game management is something that has got to improve.

We lost to Wisconsin because of how bad Wisconsin offense looked in the first quarter. The PSU Coaching Staff did not think that it was possible for Wisconsin to score 17 points in the game....... and so we were content to run into their strength and miss on the few long distance passes thrown.

There were so many plays that if we make the game is over. When Sorrell was hit ½ yard away from the first down and he does not get the first down. #4 missing the pass down the sideline. PSU getting burned on a 2nd and 20 from the 10 yard line with a screen pass for a first down........ we just needed a single play, a first down and it did not happen and then Wisconsin has a slow TE rumble down the middle of the field for a TD........

When you play to not lose, you keep the game close and if you get unlucky or a missed play or someone falls down......then you can lose.

I think there’s something to what you’re saying here. The runs on 3rd and long, not going for it on 4th and a yard near midfield… I thought at the time that MC didn’t think they could score the points they needed to beat us, so just avoid turnovers and play field position. It reminded me of Joe’s MO. It would have worked if the offense wasn’t so horrific.

Good points.

The team and the staff seemed okay with conservative calls and three and out. Perfectly happy not to commit turnovers and go punt after punt.
