What would be the word on the street? I mean they don't HAVE to move up... just like any public school.... I mean I have seen some move up and have success.. But I would bet, my retirement and house and my belongings, there would be a rule that is made to have them move up in the classes...

Because they are not like you said “just like any public school” and they know it. Hats off to ESL for playing the best
6 titles in 7 years 4 in a row would think, hmmm lets move up

if ESL were still in 5A, they would win by 40 every game for 10 years, you don't think that would make any changes?

Ughhhnnn I’m gonna try to finish this thought quick but that would require changing the IHSA BYLaWS uhhhhggghhhnnnn since ESL is a public school ughhhhnnnnn it needs to be agreed upon by a majority of the schools before it could be enacted

hats off to East St. Louis for voluntarily going to a higher class where they have trouble ugh oooh oooooh. Ughhhbbhhb finishing the job

While I also feel ESTL would absolutely dominate 5A, are you aware that Cary Grove is a 5A team now? ESTL has 2 championships over the last 5 years in 6A and Cary has beat them twice. Personally I don't think that 5A and 6A are wildly different so it seems a little extreme to think they would win, and win convincingly, for 10 years straight.

If permissible, I would assume ESL would petition up to 8A with they being one of the top programs in the country. It's very obvious they'd do quite well in 8A in my opinion.

Hear me out.

9 classes. 32 qualifiers per class. 288 total playoff qualifiers. Totally get rid of the 1A, 2A, 3A, etc.

Instead the classes are Large A, Large B, Large C, Medium A, Medium B, Medium C, Small A, Small B, Small C.

The 96 largest qualifiers are Large, middle 96 Medium, smallest 96 are considered small.

Maxpreps/Massey/Soucie/Edgy/whoever ranks the top 32 of the biggest 96 into "Large A." The teams ranked 33-64 are "Large B" and the weakest of the 96 big schools are "Large C."

Same is done for the middle 96 and then again for smallest 96.

Now LWE, BR, MC, LA, Batavia, etc are all in the same Large A Class. Naz and ESL may join them if petitioning up or success factored.

Middle A would be real fun with Rochester, Morris, Montini, PC, Naz, possibly ESL, etc.

Small A could have Lena, Byron, Wilmington, IC, etc.

So it's no longer 8 classes. It's really 3 classes (small, medium, large) with each class having a real tournament, NIT tournament, and leftovers tournament.

Doubtful. Look at Rochester. They have won a semi full of trophies and I don't recall anyone trying to kick them out of 4A 🤔

Rochester won 5 titles in a row, also 7 of 8 and 8 of 10.

The member schools don’t seem very interested in applying success factor to publics.

Thanks for engaging in an actual discussion.

I just figured if we can reduce the number of mismatches and blowouts and get 3 actual champions with difficult roads to a title instead of 8 (with 3-4 playing few competitive postseason games along the way), it would be a better system.

a better system for who?????? Ughhhh a better system for 3 schools while mmmmmmm mismatches still happen????

mmmmmmm don’t you just love to watch an early November pounding? You do take the path of least resistance and root for a small school parochial terror. Ughhhhh oh yea yes yes you guys don’t finish in late November anymore ighhhhhhhh JCA needs 8 classes to stay relevant or they would

mmmm ughhhh they would …… mmmmmmm

they would uhhhhhhhh

Got it. You like 8 classes and half the classes having a predetermined champ at the start of the postseason.

now I understand your perspective.
I prefer more competitive postseasons and making Rochester and PC and Naz all go through each other for a title. But it’s more fun for you under our current system where each can be a massive favorite in their class.

Mmmmmmmmmm why stop there ughhhhhhh

why not have one champ. No classes and the winner has to play the Chicago bears after the final game ughh mmmmm

so nobody finishes……….
