Nothing more needs to be said because that hockey team had a bigger hill to climb than the hawks. Most people dont know that about 2 weeks before the Olympics that soviet team beat the US team 10-3 in an exhibition game.
I can certainly see a scenario where we COULD win. I'd imagine the lights will be on in the 4Q, "winning time".....I'd feel better about it if it were at night.....just something different about Kinnick under the lights.
I honestly can't see a scenario where we win. Right now, I'm just wanting to make a game of it and show the country that this isn't the same Iowa offense from 3 years ago.
I’m hoping that we have a punchers chance going into the fourth. If we do… Look out. But like KF said… It’s going to take a perfect game to beat these guys…I can certainly see a scenario where we COULD win. I'd imagine the lights will be on in the 4Q, "winning time".....
I think Michigan is better than everyone thinks. I guess we will see as the season progresses. If OSU gifts us a couple pick-six’s, Sayin and Smith have game-ending injuries, and we have multiple special teams touchdowns…Boys! We may very well end this weekend 5-0!
Go Hawks
Side bar: Michigan isn’t very good and we needed penalties and such to edge them. I don’t see this game going very well - We’re still too offensively challenged, and, don’t have a defensive line.
We haven't had a game that we got all the breaks in almost a full week nowHope we get one of those breakthrough Iowa games where all the breaks go Iowa’s way, the Hawks ride momentum, and the Bucknuts get flustered all the way til the band plays. I went with the Buckeyes -13.5 in the spread contest but would be more than happy to be wrong.
We're definitely gonna need a lot of sack to win this one.You cut the snakes head off and it will die. Limit Julian Sayin's time to make decisions and they have a chance. The Hawkeyes are ranked 22nd in the nation at sack percentage. I hope they look like it on Saturday.
That’s a shocking stats to me. I’ve been underwhelmed by the pass rush again this year. You cut the snakes head off and it will die. Limit Julian Sayin's time to make decisions and they have a chance. Definitely, I thought they were always great under Binns. Now that Reese Morgan is the DLine coach it might look a little different. That’s a shocking stats to me. I’ve been underwhelmed by the pass rush again this year.
Don't necessarily need sacks. Hurries and any disruptions would be great as well. They have 8 hurries through 4 games. They had over 30 last season. We're definitely gonna need a lot of sack to win this one.
The Russians had the talent. The USA had the team. Brooks said he wasn't forming an all-star team. He was building a team that would play together and be greater than the sum of its parts. I think all of us can agree that's been the formula for KF. And maybe at least some of us can agree that's how you beat a team like Michigan or Ohio State. You can't out-talent them, but you can do all the little things that "stars" sometimes don't do. Brooks did a helluva job with that hockey team. Let's hope the Hawkeyes can follow that script to a similar result.Nothing more needs to be said because that hockey team had a bigger hill to climb than the hawks. But the hawks are dogs by 2 TDs which is pretty big
Nobody could see such a scenario in 2017 either. Do you see a scenario where Western Michigan could beat Michigan or where Wisconsin could win @ PSU? I think--and I could be wrong--but I think that's why they play the games.I'd feel better about it if it were at night.....just something different about Kinnick under the lights.

That means Iowa has at least three more games of good breaks coming this season. (Go back and review 2025. You apparently would be surprised at what you will see.)We haven't had a game that we got all the breaks in almost a full week now
I would still say Michigan defense is better than Ohio State defense.unlike Michigan. Ohio St is elite and everybody knows it. It’s likely Michigan won’t even be ranked by the end of the season.
huge opportunity. A win almost guarantees a playoff spot.
How about Iowa OL v Ohio State DL? Talent differential? How about Iowa TEs vs Ohio State TEs? The only talent difference is Smith and Sayin.Ohio State wins by 20 is how I'm feeling. I don't want to feel that way, but the talent differential is too great.
I agree.I think we need to hit with a big play early like Beathard to Tevan Smith in the 2015 BIG championship game (without the soul crushing outcome tho)! So Brown to Diaz for like a huge Td. Make a psychological impact that Smith ain’t the only threat in this game and announce we’re ready to go toe-to-toe! I just don’t think our defense this year is going to be able to keep us in the game like in years past, so the offense needs to be a spark. I’m not saying need to score 35+ points to win. But definitely mid 20s with explosive plays, no/low turnovers, and limit 3-and-outs. Tall task all around, but possible!
Very good description of that team and their coaches. Do you remember in that 1980 game how one of the US players sort of took a chance with just maybe 5 seconds left in the period and skated into the russian end to intercept a clearing pass and he roughly one timed a blast past the top russian goalie. I wonder if Herb Brooks talked to his team about the timing of taking chances, being alert to opportunities, and the psychology of the game. I mean I am sure Brooks wouldnt normally want a player to take that chance and not get the pass and leave his teammates shorthanded down ice by the Armerican end. But the player was probably mentally all over doing that play, noticing how even with just a few seconds left the russians would want to push the puck down ice.The Russians had the talent. The USA had the team. Brooks said he wasn't forming an all-star team. He was building a team that would play together and be greater than the sum of its parts. We have a defensive line, they just were tackling like sheeiiit last week. I am sure we are working on tackling drills this week.If OSU gifts us a couple pick-six’s, Sayin and Smith have game-ending injuries, and we have multiple special teams touchdowns…Boys! We may very well end this weekend 5-0!

It'd be great if Lutmer could snag a coupleIf you can't stop Smith, you can stop the ball from getting to smith.
4 INT baby let's gooooo
You can't be an Iowa fan.If OSU gifts us a couple pick-six’s, Sayin and Smith have game-ending injuries, and we have multiple special teams touchdowns…Boys! We may very well end this weekend 5-0!
