While preseason predictions are hardly 100% accurate, both of RU‘s featured programs seem to be moving in the wrong direction! Keli as her work cut out for her.

Many members of the media are not the brightest bulbs so I don’t put that much weight in the polls. I also don’t know how Knight will do as a coach when Pikiel misses games due to his cancer treatments. There are a number of good signs for the team like getting six players coming back (5 of whom started multiple games). The center and power forward position an also seem upgraded so arguably Rutgers could be picked higher. But the uncertainty concerning Pikiel does hurt. As for trends, Rutgers has three 4 star recruits coming in and so far Rutgers has a top 10 recruiting class.

Wow. On paper the roster has been upgraded. Not convinced the B1G is as strong as people are saying. I actually think it’s weaker than last year. No doubt that our B1G schedule is stronger but I didn’t not expect 17th. Was thinking 13th-14th.

With an unproven assistant coach taking over when Pikiel is not available 17th isn’t unfair. Rutgers has a lot of players who excelled against lower level competition so it really comes down to whether those skills translate like they did for Francis or only are truly effective against lower level competition like Peter Kiss.

I hear you, but when is the last time RU substantially outperformed where we were picked in the pre-season writer's poll?

Last year. We were picked 17th and finished 14th. Thats not saying much but it goes to show there's a media bias based on past performance in all sports against RU especially by midwest writers.

Who cares what the pundits say?

Contrary to some, I see both men's and women's hoops trending upwards. Keli has already moved the needle forward and will continue to do so.

Equally important, unlike football, both the men's and women's teams have the right coaches in place. We are going to surprise a lot of people both this year and moving forward.

In fairness to the media, last year we lost Ace and Dylan from a team that wasn’t very good. How high would you expect them to rank us. This year we look like we improved but Pikiel is battling cancer, again how high should they pick us with an unproven assistant coach taking over on an interim basis.
