Penn State has a pretty good passing down defense. They only allow a 23 percent success rate. Meanwhile, USC has so far been really good in passing downs.

Penn State is consistently preventing offensive success on passing plays, but the successful passing-down plays opponents do manage have been unusually damaging. That's obvious in the numbers.

On the other side, USC's defense is 102nd in passing-down success allowed. They suck. Penn State's really bad at converting though

Washington's lol third-down performance accounts for a great deal of USC's alleged defensive improvement. They were awful in passing downs otherwise. Its offense has also struggled to sustain drives against its two most recent opponents.

So, I dunno. Penn State probably just needs to avoid passing downs on offense because I think we suck against anyone. And we need to have a Washington or Oregon or better ability to force USC off schedule, because good things *usually* happen for our defense. Hopefully that isn't the thing that breaks this week.

I don't like this match-up, though, just because Rocco looks like crap.
