Two of three Northwest Games would be really interesting this Friday night.
4-2 Mt Airy host 3-3 West Stokes.
3-3 North Surry goes to 2-4 East Surry
3-3 Forbush host 0-6 Surry Central
Mt Airy put North Surry to bed fairly early this past Friday evening with a 36-0 halftime lead and a running clock.
But West Stokes is not North Surry and has played what I think is a tough non-conference schedule. There non-conference schedule included:
5A North Davidson 4-2
2A Community school of Davidson 4-2 and ranked #6
6A Statesville 2-4
5A Northeast Guilford 5-1
I am going out on a limb here, but I forecast Mt Airy by 14. The defense will provide the advantage in my opinion.
West Stokes has scored 202 points through 6 games (almost 34 per game) but has allowed 167 (nearly 28 per game).
Mt Airy has scored 161 (which included 0 against #2 Virginia Ranked Jefferson Forest HS with 2006 Students) which is 32 points per the other 5 games.
Mt Airy has allowed 108 (excluding the 42 that Jefferson Forest scored) which is 22 per 5 opponents.
I project East Surry steps up and continues North's suffering due to East playing a much more difficult non-conference schedule.
East loses have been to Statesville, Starmount, Murphy and Walkerton, which was their lone none scoring lost.
I go East by at least 14.
Forbush will unfortunately have a fairly easy practice session against Surry Central. SC is hurt by small numbers to begin with, then additional reduction due to injuries makes for a very difficult season. I think Surry County should be very proud of the effort that the young men at Central are putting forth. Sometimes there are ways to win other than on the scoreboard.
Yes I am aware I will take a hit of how I noted and excluded Jefferson Forest from Mt Airy offense and defense numbers. I am ok with that, But I did not point out Mt Airy played and defeated two NC 6A teams in the non-conference season.
