Damn RIP

I still remember that 1985 Super Bowl and the Ditka led Bears. The Pats marched down the field after the opening kickoff and kicked a FG to take the lead, 3-0. Then 46 unanswered points.

Was elected to the HOF as a player. Also won a Super Bowl as both a player and a coach. RIP Coach.

RIP. I met Ditka at his restaurant in Chicago when we played ND that year. He was going around greeting guests and ended up spending a good 20-30 minutes at our table. Great guy that will be missed.

I was today years old when I learned Ditka owned a steakhouse in suburban Chicago and in Pittsburgh where he was from. Guarantee that man knows his steaks and scotches.

As a fellow Polish paisan I loved Ditka. Tough, direct, no-nonsense, passionate, genuine, grounded, loyal and simply his own man. Great football player and leader of men. Hard to find them like him anymore in an era in which you have to coddle players. RIP Iron Mike.

He would tell you he had the best pork chops in Chicago as well.

Wouldn't be amazing if Rutgers had a coach with 5% of Ditka's talent? We would have a winning record this year.

I’ve only been to Chicago once in 2007 with a couple of old high school buddies. My sister in law worked for Time Warner at the time and got us 2nd row Cubs tickets Saturday afternoon. Playoff run too.
And they we went to Bears - Cowboys Sunday night.

Friday night we of course went to Ditka’s Steakhouse! I recall it being good and also people smoking cigars maybe by the bar. I took a few of the bar coasters they give you with his face on them and still have them in a bag from my travels back then.

Funny, after the Cubs game I bought a $10 Ditka tshirt in the street. Like his Bears sweater but said Ditka instead. Like a dumb guy my age I wore it out later. Haha the bouncers kept carding my buddies everywhere and that wearing that shirt all night I didn’t get carded and was of age but even in a line they let me in. Still have that tshirt. RIP Coach!
