Hearing through the grapevine that, after 15 years, the Bass Pro Shops , along with a Tacovas, Riverton in Sayreville is FINALLY opening on November 11 at 5:00. It appears North/Central New Jersey will not have to wait any longer. At 200,000 square feet, it will be their largest one level store in America.

I would certainly call or get something official from Bass Pro first before you hop in the car,but it appears North/Central New Jersey will not have to wait any longer. Will they have any Rutgers fishing gear? :)

Are there enough rednecks in central NJ to support such a large store?

I can't wait... this store is also geared towards saltwater fishing more than most Bass Pros that are more fresh water. Going to be awesome

You'd be surprised how big fishing is amongst the teenage boys throughout north Jersey

Ive watched that thing being built and thought it was an odd location for a store til it hit me - it's a genius location. Every fisherman coming down the parkway is going to hit that store on the way down every summer

My son is super excited, closest store is AC

Plus the Shipwreck Aquarium will be an attraction.

On behalf of my people, I find that an outdated and offensive term. You should really use hick or hillbilly. I personally identify with the progressive “ country bumpkin.”
Heaven:
unless you went to or lived there Hillbilly is for those connected to West Virginia.
Stick with "Country Bumpkin" :)

By the way, recently found out, the Bass Pro will include a Tecovas. This is the first Tecovas in New Jersey.

I was a brand loyal Cabelas guy forever. When they merged it seemed like the quality (at least the ones by me) went down a bit. Then we got a Scheels. Man. THAT place is awesome. I think Bass Pro is still probably the go to place for fishing, but for hunting or anything else, Scheels is amazing.

Remember "back in the day" ordering BB guns and wristrocket/slingshots from Cabela mail order when times were "safer" and "saner." No more of that fun!

Sears as well.
My dad used to shoot crabapples with his wrist rocket from the porch to chase the geese out of our yard. I remember once I shot a fairly large ball bearing at them once. Tragically I pinged one on the right spot and he went down like a sack of potatoes. I felt so bad, had to hide the body before pops found out

Don't underestimate big game hunting in the Amboys and prize fishing off the Driscoll Bridge

In all seriousness I don't even know how Bass Pro is open in AC either. Young people buy the hats from what I see and that's it.

I have been to Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops and I don’t fish or hunt. The majority of the store carries hiking, canoes and kayaks, motor boats, ATV’s, tents, backpacks, all kinds of rain and cold weather gear, outdoor cookware and food, work boots, and a TON of other outdoors related stuff. This location will include a restaurant too.

Stuff good for tailgating. . . .
Some people need to check their pre-conceived notions of things (in many areas).

Real interesting story about how they started—Johnny Morris was allowed to sell fishing stuff in an 8 square foot shelf at his Dads liquor store in Missouri ! Morris is now a multi billionaire. Only in America.— Here is their website. As you can see they have an insane amount of outdoors stuff.

The Cabelas in Hamberg PA does photos with Santa in a Santa Wonderland in the store. Yeah it's right next to the gallery of about 50 mounted trophy deer heads.

I am 99 percent sure all the fish and deer mounts are donated by old collections of customers, in case anyone out there thinks the store goes out and kills to decorate each new store.

We went to the one in Memphis, it was insane.
First of all, it's a giant glass pyramid.

535,000 sq ft, giant swamp with alligators, a dozen or so fish tanks, glass elevator in the middle that goes to the 2nd floor & opens into a 360 degree bar. Then there's the glass floor outdoor deck that surrounds it.

I grew up by the original sporting goods super store Efinger's. Growing up as a kid that place was a magical experience. We didn't know what sitting inside the house meant except on a rainy day, only then did we battle it out playing Atari. Yeah, my childhood kicked a$$.

For those that don’t know The Pyramid in Memphis was an 18,000 seat arena that used to be the home of the Memphis State and Memphis Grizzlies basketball teams. I think it is the largest pyramid outside of Egypt.

A true NJ classic. Not sure where you shop for fishing/hunting gear in that area now. Looks like maybe Sayreville.

Didn't realize Cabela's was headquartered in Nebraska until I stayed down the street from its former HQ earlier this month. Sidney, NE just happened to be the one among the few and far between stops on that part of I-80 that popped up when it was time to call it a night.

Guess the very first Cabela's store is still there but corporate offices moved after Bass Pro acquisition. Some of the space has since been leased by our conf mates - the University of Nebraska.

The Great Pyramid of Cholula and Teotihuacan (Pyramid of the Sun), both in Mexico say not so fast.

Scheels' closest location to NJ is in Illinois. Useless to have one in NJ. Firearms laws are too strict.

A cousin of mine goes to gun bingos in Pennsylvania. There's no chance of having one of those in the Garden State.

Anything that fits for camping, fits for tailgating. Ray's Sports Shop in North Plainfield was great for that for years. Although this season has diminished my desire to tailgate or get excited about anything football related.
