Wondering if he’s thinking he might a made a bad calculation? PSU is playing garbage football…
I would imagine with the contract he will be set for life even if he gets fired.Wondering if he’s thinking he might a made a bad calculation? PSU is playing garbage football…![]()
He may have made a mistake, but he took a shot at an elite program and will be paid richly!Wondering if he’s thinking he might a made a bad calculation? PSU is playing garbage football…![]()
He’s guaranteed 70 million dollars for his 8 year contract. And every year he’s still there he gets another $1MM bonus. And don’t forget that he’s already likely earned around $30-40MM in his career.I would imagine with the contract he will be set for life even if he gets fired.
Yeah he can't quite live the luxurious lifestyle as your average poster here but I can't see him going hungry as long as he sticks to Wednesday night Ramen night. He’s guaranteed 70 million dollars for his 8 year contract. And every year he’s still there he gets another $1MM bonus. And don’t forget that he’s already likely earned around $30-40MM in his career.
As long as he utilizes good financial planners and lives a nice but not extravagant lifestyle, he will have developed generational wealth by signing this contract no matter how poorly he does as a coach there.
He couldn't win the big game which cost him in the long run, but it was a knee jerk reaction. I do think Campbell could succeed there, but he was way down on their list of candidates.Firing Franklin was a mistake. He was having a rough start last year but won 10 games in each of the previous 3 seasons. He took PSU to the national semi-final in 2024.
I won't disagree about recruiting...obviously essential. However, psu fans, and everyone else thought this could be a playoff team, not a 3-loss team in early October. It's all about recruiting,.. this was never going to be his season.
They thought just because he took the majority of isu guys with him??? I dunno.I won't disagree about recruiting...obviously essential. However, psu fans, and everyone else thought this could be a playoff team, not a 3-loss team in early October.
Their fans are already unhappy!
True. They had a VERY favorable Big Ten schedule, and a clear road to the CFP.............until they didn't. That would have certainly helped his recruiting down the road to make the CFP in his first year.I won't disagree about recruiting...obviously essential. However, psu fans, and everyone else thought this could be a playoff team, not a 3-loss team in early October.

It should have been a CFP year for them given their schedule. Preseason, the only ranked team they had was USC.I won't disagree about recruiting...obviously essential. However, psu fans, and everyone else thought this could be a playoff team, not a 3-loss team in early October.

I find this extremely hard to believe. PSU had close to 50 players hit the portal following Franklin's dismissal.I won't disagree about recruiting...obviously essential. However, psu fans, and everyone else thought this could be a playoff team, not a 3-loss team in early October.

You all are ridiculous; Campbell will be fine longer term. This is year one for god’s sakes.Isn't he from rust belt Ohio? Short of Ohio St., PSU is probably one of his dream jobs. Can't blame him for taking that opportunity. But anyone who thought he could just plug ISU's players into Penn St. uniforms and roll through the B1G was in need of a reality kick to the nuts, and that's what they're now getting.
There was CFP talk because of their schedule, but Michigan and Washington were also ranked early and both were ahead of PSU in the AP poll.It should have been a CFP year for them given their schedule. Preseason, the only ranked team they had was USC.
Agreed, it's way too early to consider this a bad hire. That said he's going to struggle in the BIG unless he can find the next Heacock to run his defense. As others have said iowa state actually playing defense in the B12 was a major reason for their success and that was Heacock, not Campbell. If '27 isn't much better than this year the seat will be getting very warm. You all are ridiculous; Campbell will be fine longer term. This is year one for god’s sakes.
He's a good coach and not stupid, so he knew he was never going to win a national championship at Iowa State. They haven't won so much as a conference football title since 1912.You all are ridiculous; Campbell will be fine longer term. This is year one for god’s sakes.
This is the easiest schedule he will ever have. Ever. He blew a 17 pt lead at home to a mediocre Wisconsin team, let NW run for over 400 yards and the let USC go up and down the field on him. You have no idea if he will be fine. The right coach can turn a situation around in 1 year now. Cignetti did it at Indiana, look at UCLA, they were as downtrodden as you could be. NW as well. While he has all the resources to turn it around there are zero guarantees. You all are ridiculous; Campbell will be fine longer term. This is year one for god’s sakes.
Exactly this. He had to fill a roster and the ISU players he had were the best way to do it. I think he’ll be successful long term. Whether that will meet PSU’s standards of success, I don’t knowI find this extremely hard to believe. PSU had close to 50 players hit the portal following Franklin's dismissal.
