JMU is the strongest football team in the American and close to Navy and Temple.

Meant SunBelt.
I dont know about that. I still give the edge to Appalacian State on that one. JMU has created more success in a short amount of time in the conference but they came with a good football team. All around I believe App State is the strongest member of the Sun Belt and just as easily attainable from the schools mentioned by us both but JMU is a great draw for the conference

ECU held their nose on Charlotte joining because of the TV market. No way they will stand for App St. Very low TV market but strong fan base, ECU base is slightly larger and has better attendance. App is not an easy place for travel. To fly a B737 close you have to go to Hickory NC (6400 x 150 runway TUPilot could provide better insight but think you have to get certain clearances before hand) at 36 miles away or Tri-Cities (Bristol TN 8000 ft runway) is more likely 72 miles away but it is a hard drive over the mountain. My guess is for a football team would fly to Charlotte 95 mile drive or Greensboro 128 mile drive and a couple of hours bus ride. Neither option is ideal for travel.

ECU is still aching from their loss to App (27-24) but since then App is in tail spin. They barely held off Charlotte (26-21) and then lost last weekend to ODU (10-3). App Fans are vocal and upset.

JMU is new to FBS but is a better TV market and is coming off of multiple FCS Championships. They and NDSU are the best football up and comers IMHO.

If I base it off this season then yes I would agree with the original premise a thousand percent. Boone is not the easiest place to get to for someone who is flying in. The drive for anyone from The airport is not that bad. They are in the footprint of the American and if fixed would be a great addition. I do understand your point with the media market and understand the business side of it. My point is that the whole body of work App state has been the best of the Sun belt.

I also agree that JMU and NDSU are the big up and comers of FBS. I would LOVE to have NDSU in the conference but they are so out of the foot print of the American we might as well let UConn back in. Lol

NDSU to Mtn West was a good and logical move.

73 can operate on that runway. SNA is 5700... But it also depends on elevation and 73 version (700, 800 NGs or MAX or SFP... and so on). Plus, almost every flight done on those short runways is weight restricted.

I never flew with the team when I did the equipment stuff so I'm not sure how full it is, but gross weight, aircraft specialty, and elevation are going to be the biggest factors for a runway that length.

You also have to have an operator willing to do it... And customers willing to fly on that operator 😂.
