Sure you can do it kick it right through their line or just over the line makes the return a lot harder.Squib isn’t really an option.
The worst case scenario is not getting the kick to hit inside their 20...and if you're going to be safe to avoid that, then there isn't a good squib option to stop their returner from getting it. With no timeouts for JAX, seems like the "kick it out of the endzone" was the best option.Sure you can do it kick it right through their line or just over the line makes the return a lot harder.
but is would be moot if just ran the ball on first down in FG range and called time out with 3 seconds left in the game.

I watched the play again. There was really not much chance at making a tackle. Rondon had the best chance and it wasn't a good one. The play was well blocked by Jax. I would be asking Michael Clay how he was so dominated on 2 different kick returns (including the opening kick. yeah, I know there was a penalty).Or if somebody ran down and made a tackle
well yes a pecking order of choices and of what the best thing to do kick it out of endzone for sure but if your guy cant do that -- Elliot is suspectThe worst case scenario is not getting the kick to hit inside their 20...and if you're going to be safe to avoid that, then there isn't a good squib option to stop their returner from getting it. go watch it again, 17 runs around the block, if he strikes that guy down the middle or even if he dodges toward the ball, (rule is always dodge toward the ball, the hole is compressed and the return is minimal. 17 opened up the gate,I watched the play again. where does the team receiving the ball get the ball if you kick it Out of bounds? HOw much time would be left? do they have a time out? what is the range of the kicker? What they did was the correct choice, covering the kick would have been the best choice.well yes a pecking order of choices and of what the best thing to do kick it out of endzone for sure but if your guy cant do that -- Elliot is suspect
Ok, I did. 17 looks like he is intentionally filling the lane where he ran by design. It appears that he is expecting 84 to fill the gap where the returner ran. But 84 got double teamed. I don't know special teams that well, but I bet 84 is who was supposed to be in position for that tackle but Jax blocked it very well. To me this looked a lot more like good scheming by Jax (and poor by Philly) and not poor execution.go watch it again, 17 runs around the block, if he strikes that guy down the middle or even if he dodges toward the ball, (rule is always dodge toward the ball, the hole is compressed and the return is minimal. 17 opened up the gate,
disagree, to me 17 is making a business decision to not take on the blocker as he should. 7 would have had an easier time closing the gate it 17 had'en let it wide open . I see the double but I highly doubt that guy and 17 were exchanging responsibilities. 17 is the one that plays it like a ***** to me.Ok, I did. 17 looks like he is intentionally filling the lane where he ran by design. if you dont want to get hit you'll do what 17 did. He can take a little bump, but he never strikes the guy down the middle as shouldThat makes no sense. The blocker isn't running toward him. 17 has all the momentum so there is no reason to try to avoid the blocker. He never abruptly veers away from a blocker. He literally never changes direction from the second he starts running until the returner is passed him. If he was trying to avoid getting hit, you would see him abruptly shift direction or ease up.
Or when you have a certain lane responsibility, you do what 17 did. He was part of the outside contain. Your best argument here is that he should have adapted his lane when he saw where the returner was going. Either way, Jacksonville obviously found a flaw in the Eagles coverage and exploited it.if you dont want to get hit you'll do what 17 did.
