Bunker Hill at Foard: Bears by 10.

North Lincoln: bye

East Lincoln at Hickory: Flyrod's game of the week has all the potential of a great one. Giving the Red Tornadoes 6 for home field advantage plus 1 since their kicker rarely if ever misses, so the Tornadoes by 7.

West Iredell at Newton-Conover: Were I a West Iredell fan I'd probably feel like we could take it easy knowing the conference championship is in the bag, and too, until maybe the fourth round of the playoffs, but a word of caution, here: Newton-Conover is just the type that could spoil things. As peculiar as it sounds it could happen. West is coming off of a big win against last year's Western Foothills champs, Hickory. I'd think a lot of emotion went into that game and could result in careless, flat play for the next. Don't think this is likely but the Warriors shouldn't take the devils lightly. West Iredell by 17.

Bandys at Maiden: The Blue Devils do well at home and seem to feed off their fan support along with this being an old, old rivalry. M by 18.
____________________________________________________________________________________
In the Non-Conference matchups

Hibriten at RS Central: Have sentimental feelings for teams out of the WNCHSAA conferences and the Hilltoppers were one of them (Course, if Hibriten was predominantly the old Lenoir High Bearcats, then they were in it, too). Besides that, had a friend who played for them (RS) back in the old days who ended up being stationed here in Lincolnton. Recall asking him what his number was then and him saying "Number 4 in your program and number 1 in your hearts." Hibriten is just too much. Panthers by 28.

Cramer at Lincolnton: The Storm travels to the land of enchantment, No I'm not talking about New Mexico, but the location of the infamous field house and revival tent. Think about it, cussed out at one and blessed at the other. Wolves by 7.

Side Note: Wanted to offer a tip of the hat to our old friend Flyrod for unofficially dubbing the Bandys at Maiden game as "amaidendevil's game of the week.”
Was awfully generous of you, considering AMD made that very offensive message board picture of a Trojan on a tractor with a banner that said what I cannot repeat, prior to the Maiden at Bandys game last year.

As always, pick are in bold.

Interesting week last week and should be easier this week but not much.

Maiden- good rivarly ought to make it interesting but Maiden too much, Bandys should have better year next year

Bunker Hill- just giving them the edge based off better performace than people thought theyd have. Could go either way but could be wrong

Hickory- Im basing this off of their potential and cause its Hickory. Whoever makes least mistakes wins this one based off of what I've watched. Another weapon on field for Hickory to worry bout but less of a factor if theirs QB pressure is effective. Expect a nice crowd and FFN to be front and center. I might make this one.

North Lincoln- girlfriends, partys and fortnite. Agee shooting hoops in driveway and getting exciting for the squeaky sneakers. Gail Wipperdipper from Lower Eye Trailer park will be practicing up for next half time show singing. Shes auditioning to be warm up singer for Waynos Silver Bullet

West Iredell- Spence resting after half but team will proceed with caution I'm sure. Lincolnton says so lol. Big Green by 35

Hibriten- they have to run down the road bless their hearts. No walking down hill to Hells Bells. RSC according to a great source is slightly overrated but they do have a fun RB to watch. They go down by 28 and East Burke will still be on their minds ha ha

Lincolnton- just when I thought there wont be a coin flip game to pick here we go. A good un' if you dont go watch Hickory. I typed SC, at first but went back to backspace. I'm going with my buddy Lincolnton on this pick and hope he puts out the good vibs on the game. They'll be looking to get at it after a close loss to Shelby.

There's a couple toss ups in there. I think Hickory/EL and SC/Linc are too close to call with alot at stake when it comes to playoff seeding.
Both games extremly winnable for any slight underdogs. That being EL and SC being the underdogs. Well really EL just the underdog. SC and Lincolnton are 2 heavy weight boxers same height weight and bench max sorta thing ha ha

AMD, Do you remember this? September 16, 2022. Lincolnton had just lost a bunker Hill 7 to 6… was sitting in the parking lot at Bunker Hill high school waiting for traffic to clear out. Thought I’d see what was on NC preps. Saw this message from you. Hadn’t talk to you before this was the first time…kind of felt bad that you blamed us for messing up your pick’ems.

Said I was sorry and here was your reply. It’s always a joy to have someone needling your *** after your team has just lost a close game that they shouldn’t lost.

I would tell you how to get him on one of them he will more than likely miss if I knew whether or not anybody was hurt from the Shelby game. But since you get so out of frame over the Pick’ems contest I’ll just stay mum.

Man I believe Lincolnton probably accounts for most my losses this year in the pick'ems

Sorry about that AMD. Man, did we have our chances.
It's fine but gotta be honest I've lost faith lol. Don't think I can roll with Lincolnton anymore this year, except when they play west Caldwell 🤣. I wonder if that's the game @Maiden Creek has West Caldwell winning 🤣🤣

I surely understand that, amd... As for me, I don't and will not ever pick against the Wolves or lose faith in them. That's something I could never do, it's a matter of the heart. I do hate to lose but I'm as proud of them, now, as I was the last time they won a football title.

We've had bad years since 2017 but I know just as sure as I'm typing this message they will right things and be a formidable opponent, again.
I congratulate you and the Maiden fans on your success but I also heed the words of a once renowned man who said "All glory is fleeting".

The loser will hit the road...
Last year the top 4 teams in the Western Foothills 4A/5A Conference had first round byes, Hickory & East are both 5A, it was teams getting byes last year finishing (6-4) again, did something change this year???

Hickory
East Lincoln
Newton-Conover
Maiden

All had first round byes last years and technically Newton-Conover was first in 4A in the conference because they beat Maiden in the season, though Maiden got revenge in the playoffs.
East Lincoln finished second in 5A behind Hickory last year in the conference and they got a first round bye, what is the difference this year.

Hickory and East Lincoln were both 9-1 headed into the playoffs last year. Having that .9 as the first number on the RPI is strong. That won’t happen this year…East Lincoln can still achieve that if they beat Hickory but that means Hickory will fall to 7-3. If it goes the other way then both will have an 8-2 record and possibly means that one of them won’t get a bye.

Yeah, so based on the RPI one of us would have a first-round bye and the other will go on the road in the first round, I'm not a fan of that based on some teams that had byes in different classification that finished with 4 losses. That's kind of crazy to me.
I believe you though, it's just a bit strange to see some teams that do have byes with worse records regardless of if it’s HKY or East, which are two Powerhouse 5A teams, but I don't doubt it, last year I could be wrong but I seen a team in the playoffs last year and they had like 3 or 4 wins they did not get a bye of course but I was trying to figure how they even made it, the NCHSAA got to get better and it's a history of us in the playoffs were things looked a bit weird and that is not just football, many conversations with Hickory coaches that shared the same sentiment and us fans not being happy where we land at times, I still remember the 1996 state championship team going (16-0) and playing one home game in the post-season, we played N. Surry at home then we played Canton Pisgah, Brevard, Statesville on the road, but the crazy thing is we beat Statesville twice that year, then turned around and played Statesville on the road in the playoffs rumored they even tried to wet the field, and of course Jamestown Ragsdale in the state title game was in Chapel Hill. When we were trying to go back-to-back West Charlotte had no business in 3A that year, that's why when they did the realignment they jumped from 3A to 8A.

It's cool we're still in good shape to be the #1 5A seed from our conference. We need to defeat a solid East Lincoln team though; we know what needs to be done. Slowing Jaxon Dollar down will be a task, I can't lie the kid is really good, we did pretty good job on him last year, we had Dorrian Medley on him he is about 6'3" Shrine Bowl Selection App St commit but he is gone, LOL but we will see Friday how we handle him. #TornadoPride 🌪️

Here’s a bit of trivia…

There was a playoff team with 4 losses that didn’t receive a bye last year and made it to the state championship game.

Who?

3a….Kinston

Neither team will go on road one will get a bye and have week off. The other will host a playoff game in first round

What about the boom devils? When is the last time you guys went 500 or below?
Maiden has had only 4 losing seasons since the forming of the old 2A SD-7 Conference in 1959: 1985 (3-7), 1989 (4-5-1), 1995 (5-6), and 2014 (5-7). This year could well be losing season number 5. More than likely, we're not going to beat East Lincoln. So we'll probably have to beat Bandys, Newton-Conover, and win a first round playoff game in order to finish 6-6. We haven't had a bad team since 2014, so no complaints.
